Alexandria, August 1. - Mrs. Julia Piper, the oldest and among one of the best esteemed women of Alexandria, died last evening at 6 o'clock, after a few days' illness. She was born July 14, 1829, at Alexandria, and reached the good old age of almost ninety years. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal church, for which she was an ardent and earnest worker, and was liked by all with whom she was associated. Her husband, Joseph Piper, preceded her to the grave twenty-six years ago, since which time she has made her home with two of her children, Edgar and Anna. Miss Anna has been a faithful daughter to her mother during her reclining [sic] years. Mrs. Piper was the mother of seven children as follows: Emory G., of Tyrone; Harris, deceased; Philip, of Altoona; Miss Anna and Edgar at home; Mrs. Mary Hutchison, deceased, and George B., of Alexandria. Her church honored her a few years ago by printing her photograph on the program of Mother's day exercises as the oldest member of the church and because of the high esteem in which she was held. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at her late home by Rev. R. W. Runyeon and interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery.
