Mrs. Mary Jane Pope, widow of the late J. Porter Pope, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. Guiterrez, 418 Washington street, on Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock after an illness since last fall with cancer of the liver. Mrs. Pope was the daughter of William and Mary Miller and was born in Philadelphia on July 4, 1843, being aged at the time of her death 78 years, 8 months and 10 days. She came to Huntingdon when fourteen years old and was married to J. Porter Pope on March 8, 1866, living all her married life in this place. Her husband died less than two months ago. Mrs. Pope was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church. She is survived by one son and one daughter, Mrs. Violet, wife of F. Guiterrez, and Samuel H. Pope, of Philadelphia, also by one brother, William T. Miller, of Altoona. Funeral services will be held from her late residence, 414 Second street, on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. G. S. Womer, with interment in Riverview cemetery.
