Puchalla, 88, formerly of Mount Union and most recently of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, died at 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Woodland. She had been in failing health. A funeral mass was held May 22 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Fr. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment was made in St. Catherine's Church Cemetery, RD 1 Shirleysburg. Funeral arrangement were under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. A wake service was held May 21. Born Feb. 5, 1913, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Petrock) Holesa. She was united in marriage to Stephen J. Puchalla on Sept. 9, 1929, at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church in Mount Union. Mr. Puchalla preceded her in death July 11, 1963. Surviving are the following children: Edward Puchalla of State College, Stanley Puchalla of Broomall, Mrs. Ted (Ann) Aurand of Huntingdon, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Chiodo of Morgantown, W.Va., Robert Puchalla of Mount Union; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Clara Cholewinski of Mount Union, Paul Holesa of McConnellstown and Edward Holesa of Saxton. She was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnn Madden and the following brothers and sisters: John Holesa, Joseph Holesa, Steve Holesa, Mike Holesa, Anna Puchalla, Agnes Youngman, Mary Sevick and two infant siblings, Andy Holesa and Elizabeth Holesa. Mrs. Puchalla was a member of St. Catherines Catholic Church of Mount Union and the Catholic Daughters for many years. She was retired from L. Grief Mfg. Inc. of Mount Union.
