Rahm, one of the oldest resident of this city, who died at his residence, on Sixth street, at six o'clock Wednesday morning, in his 84th year, had been confined to his room for over a year with dropsy. During that time he grew gradually weaker and his death was not unexpected, although he still maintained an extraordinary clear mind and good memory to the last. The deceased was born in Harrisburg, April 1, 1804, and learned the tailoring trade and followed the business of merchant tailoring in Bellefonte, Blairsville and Huntingdon, Pa., for a number of years, locating in Huntingdon in the year 1829. Mr. Rahm was the only surviving member of a family of six brothers and six sisters, children of Melcher Rahm, of Harrisburg, and a grandson of Conrad Rahm who came from Metz, Germany, with the Mullenbergers. His father was sheriff of Dauphin county in 1804, also a member of the Legislature which met in Philadelphia. There is preserved to this day by friends a letter written by George Washington to Melcher Rahm on some official business. Gen. Green Berry Rahm, of Washington, D.C., is the only nephew of Wm. K. Rahm living. Nine children, twenty-one grand children and two great-grand children survive him, nearly all of whom live in Huntingdon. During his life he had three partial paralytic strokes. The deceased was a consistent member of the Lutheran church of this place for many years and esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral services will take place Friday morning at 10 o'clock, in the Lutheran church. The Huntingdon Journal, Huntingdon, Pa., Friday, February 10, 1888
