Mrs. Susan Rankin, wife of A. C. Rankin, of Sharon, Mercer county, died Sunday, January 15, 1899. She was in her usual health, and started to church shortly after 10 o'clock, and after walking about three-fourths of the way fell dead on the sidewalk in front of Sample and Robert's undertaking rooms. The supposed cause of her death was apoplexy. Mrs. Rankin was a daughter of John and Catharine Fox, and was born near Waterstreet, Huntingdon county, May 28, 1838. She was married to A. C. Rankin, September 2, 1858, and was the mother of twelve children, five of whom died in infancy. Her husband and the following children survive her: Mary, Florence, Lewis, Charles and Harry at home; Emma, of Sewickley, and Archie, jr., of West Middlesex. In 1865 she moved to Mercer county, near New Wilmington, where she resided until 1894, when she moved to her late home in Sharon. The funeral services were held at her late residence on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mr. Johnson, of the Presbyterian church, at New Wilmington; Rev. Mr. McKee, of the Baptist church; Rev. Mr. Philips, of the Methodist Episcopal church, and Rev. Mr. Lininger, of Sharon. During the services several beautiful selections were sung by the quartette of the Presbyterian church of Sharon. The remains were taken to New Wilmington, where they were laid to rest in the Neshannock Presbyterian cemetery, of which church she was a member since 1875. Altoona Tribune, Thursday, February 9, 1899
