Ross, 76, of PO Box 148, (Shirley Township), Mount Union, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at 10:40 p.m. at J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the past year. Arrangements were under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Private services were held. Born Oct. 30, 1925, in Philadelphia, he was a son of Harry and Freda (MacDonald) Ross. He was married to Patricia (Strassacker) Ross on Aug. 9, 1974, in Horsham. She survives along with a daughter, Mindy Woomer of Philadelphia. Two grandsons and two brothers survive: Harry Ross of South Carolina and Samuel Ross of Pennsylvania. Mr. Ross was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from February 1943 until February 1946. He was awarded the Pacific Theatre Ribbon with three stars, the American Service Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was a teamster organizer in the Philadelphia area and worked as a warehouseman until his retirement in 1985. Mr. Ross was a HAM radio operator for many years and was a member of HCAR Club. He was also a member of the Frank P. Homman American Legion Post 24 of Huntingdon, Moose Lodge 223 of Huntingdon and a life member of the Huntingdon County Humane Society. He was an avid reader and self-taught in many areas of interest, having become an accomplished chess player, artist and guitarist. He loved hunting, fishing and his dogs and cats.
