Runk, 76, of 8206 Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at the Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown. Funeral services were held March 16 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home Inc., Mount Union. Officiating was Rev. Jerry Miller and interment was in the Germany Valley Cemetery, RD Shirleysburg. Born July 28, 1925, in Shirleysburg, he was a son of the late David W. and Naomi T. (Newman) Runk. He married Dorothy J. (Kane) Runk on June 5, 1949, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Mount Union. She survives at their home along with the following children: Wayne C. Runk of Potter's Mills, Susan R. Brodie of State College, Ronald E. Runk of Milton and Peggy J. Wien of Delmont. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The following brothers also survive: Kenneth Runk of Wisconsin, Sheldon Runk of RD McVeytown, Max Runk of Punxsutawney and Boyd Runk 01 RD Mount Union. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and the following brothers and sisters: Eva Morgan Iona Hooper, Thelma Runk, Vera Ranck, Hayden Runk and Edwin Runk. He was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, RD2 McVeytown. He attended the Shirleysburg Elementary School and the Mount Union Area High School. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre of operations. Mr. Runk was a member of the Big Spring Lodge 361 F & AM Newville; St. John's Royal Arcl Chapter 171, Carlisle; and a member of the Atkinson Mill Sportsman's Association. He retired in 1973 as a gauge after 23 years service with Mobil Oil Co., based in the Altoona office. He also farmed in Fergusoi Valley for many years. The Valley Log, Orbisonia, Pa., March 20, 2002
