BICKLE Sr., Box 226, 54, of R.R. 3, Huntingdon, died at 4:35 am, Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at his home Born Aug. 23, 1948, in Huntingdon, he was a son of George H. and Lena M. (Jenkins) Bickle. His mother survives at Huntingdon, R.R. 3. He was twice married; first to Bertha Keller in 1972. She preceded him in death in 1989. His second marriage was to Jean Close in 1986. She survives in Huntingdon. He is survived by two sons, John W, Bickle Jr.. Huntingdon; and Kevin A. Bickle, Huntingdon. R.R.3; and one stepdaughter, Cassandra L. Baker, Bedford. There are two grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers survive: Catherine Sechrest, Mapleton; Linda Isenberg and George Bickle, both of Huntingdon; and Bob Bickle, Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Bickle. He was a 1969 graduate of Huntingdon Area High School. He was a member of Standing Stone Post No. 1754, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Huntingdon, and McConnellstown volunteer Fire Company. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served with the U.S. Army, Battery D of 5/2 Artillery. He received the Vietnam Service medal and Vietnam Campaign medal. He had worked in the environmental services department at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. George "Buddy" Baird officiating. Interment will be made in Monroe Valley Cemetery, Orbisonia. Blaine A. MENTZER, 77, of HCR 61, Box 420, Mill Creek, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey. Born March 13, 1925, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, he was a son of the late Russel and Olive (Gutshall) Mentzer. He was twice married: first to Edna Crownover June 2, 1946, who preceded him in death; then to Loey Carson June 12, 1994, who survives at their home. He is survived by two daughters, Fay Montgomery, Greencastle; and Donna Bollinger, Mill Creek; and a stepson, Randy Carson, Mill Creek. There are ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Esther Wagner, Lewistown; Helen Mellott and Flo Scott, both of Mount Union; Grace Miller, Shirleysburg; Merrill Mentzer, Shippensburg: and Dale Mentzer, Wilmington, Del. Two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death: Ruth Kyler, Freda Mentzer, and Earl, Cloyd. Jeremiah and Carl Mentzer. Mr. Mentzer was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church. A veteran of World War II, he served as a U.S. Army private first class with the 303rd Troop Carrier Squadron of the 442nd TIC Group. He retired as a supervisor from Letterkenny Army Depot. He enjoyed camping and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Raymond C. Crownover officiating. Interment will be made in Mountainview Cemetery, Mill Creek. Richard E. GLENN, 76, of 1124 Miffin St., Huntingdon, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Corsica, he was a son of the late Elmer N. and Anna L. (Holden) Glenn. He was twice married; first, to Ermina Wilkinson who preceded him in death and then to Velma (Shirokey) Casner Oct. 16, 1988. She survives at their home. He is survived by one son, Alan R. Glenn. Gaithersburg, Md.; two stepsons, Chester Staley, Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Ronald Staley, Watertown, N.Y., and one stepdaughter, Mary Pyles. Huntingdon. There are two grandchildren, five step grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. A sister, Norma Jean Davis, Madera, also survives. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry L. Glenn, and one brother, Jack H. Glenn. Mr. Glenn was a member of Madera Presbyterian Church, Madera. He was a life member of Madera Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Frank P. Hommon Post 24 American Legion, Huntingdon. A graduate of Corsica High School, Corsica, he was a United States Army veteran stationed in Germany during World War II. He was a heavy equipment operator in coal strip mines in the C1earfield area for 15 years, then worked in the construction field in various parts of Pennsylvania for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Funeral services will be held at 10 am. Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Robert E. Peters Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Revs. Harold Williams and Thomas Klein officiating. George N. LLOYD, 93, of 9l7 Mifflin St., Huntingdon, died at 9:50 am. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, Hollidaysburg. Born Dec. 17, 1908. in Alexandria, he was a son of the late George W. and Bertha (Altman) Lloyd. He was united in marriage to M. Inelda Isenberg July 8, 1933, in Frederick, Md. Mrs. Lloyd preceded him in death March 4, 1997. One son, Robert D. Lloyd, Hesston. R.R. 1, survives. There are three grandchildren and one great-grandson One son, Richard Max Lloyd, preceded him in death. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by one sister, Freda Lloyd and one brother, Guy Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd was a member of Abbey Reformed Church-United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. He had been a life member of Standing Stone Post 1754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Huntingdon, and had been a member of the Huntingdon Lions Club. A 1927 graduate of Alexandria High School. he owned and operated Lloyd’s Delicatessen, in Huntingdon, from 1957-1970. He then went to work in the cafeteria at Huntingdon Area High School. From 1976-1997, he was bookkeeper for Jon Dysard’s Garage in Smithfield, Huntingdon. He was a World War II veteran who served with the 3161st Signal Service Company of the U.S. Army, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be made in Alexandria Presbyterian Cemetery, Alexandria. Nancy L. (Allison) DECKER, 65, of 3247 Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, formerly of 178 Graylyn Drive, Anderson, S.C., died at 9:05 am, Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at her home. Born April 27, 1937, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late James Gibson "Gib" and Emily (Snyder) Allison. She was united in marriage to James K. Decker June 15, 1958, at the Fifteenth Street Methodist Church, Huntingdon, by the Rev. Ferdinand Derk. Mr. Decker survives at their home. One daughter and one son survive: Natalie Cantrell and James K. Decker Jr., both of Huntingdon. There are two grandchildren. One sister, Peggy Bumbarger, McConnellstown, also survives, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Matthew Decker Sr., Sept. 4, 1986. One sister, Ethel Jane Horton, and one brother, Blair C. Allison, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Decker was a member of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, where she was a member of the "Merri Methodists" and was active in the Sunday School both as a student and teacher. In Huntingdon, she was a former member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, was a den mother with the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Hunringdon Country Club. In Anderson, she was a member of the Cobb’s Glen Country Club and the Anderson Country Club. She was also active in the Meals on Wheels Program and the VITA program. She attended the Huntingdon public schools and graduated with honors from Huntingdon High School with the Class of 1953. While residing in Huntingdon, she was employed by General Finance Corporation and the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation office. During her tenure in Anderson, she was a real estate agent until her retirement in 1996. Mrs. Decker enjoyed contract bridge. volunteerism and travel. Funeral services will he held at 11 am, Saturday. Sept. 7, at the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, 1500 Moore Street, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David L. Dearing officiating. Interment will be made in Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon. Mary E. BEAVER, 73, of Bellmeade Manor, 1929 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, formerly of 518 Mifflin St. Huntingdon, died at 4:07 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. She had resided at the manor for the past two months. Born March 17, 1929, in Huntingdon. she was the daughter of the late Harry Theodore and Mary Elizabeth (Kelly) Beaver. She never married. One brother, Theodore Beaver, preceded her in death. Miss Beaver was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Huntingdon. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Sixth and Washington streets, Huntingdon, with the Rev. David J. Arseneault officiating. Interment will be made in Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon. Mary A. ADOLPHSON, 84, of Saxton, R.R., died at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at the home of her son, Ralph Angelo. She had been in failing health for the past 14 years. Born in Dudley, Jan. 20, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lucie (Mosco) Angelo. She was married to Elliott Adolphson who preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1977. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Ralph Angelo, Saxton: Russell Ramsey, Todd; and Melva Hazzard, Saxton. There are two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Tony Angelo of Saxton. One sister and two brothers preceded her in death: Lucy Baker and Frank and James Angelo. Mrs. Adolphson was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of and enjoyed the Hopewell Senior Citizens Center. She was primarily a homemaker. Funeral services will he held at noon today, Sept. 7, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home, Broad Top City, with the Rev. Patrick Leahey officiating. Interment will be made at Dudley Methodist Cemetery, Dudley. David K. GUYER, 69, of William Penn Nursing Center, Lewistown, formerly of R.R. 1, Box 251, Huntingdon, Porter Township, died at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at Lewistown Hospital, Lewistown, following an extended illness. He had resided at the nursing center for one and one-half years. Born Feb. 8, 1933, in Petersburg, R.R. 1, he was a son of the late Arthur V. and Thelma (Friday) Guyer. He was united in marriage to Hilda M. Snyder June 2, 1952, in Huntingdon by the Rev. Lee Rodgers. Mrs. Guyer survives at the couple’s Huntingdon. R.R. 1, residence. He is survived by three sons and one daughter: C. David "Butch" Guyer, Baltimore, Md.; C. Donald Guyer and Darlene K. Bard, both of Mill Creek, Brady Township; and Douglas L. Guyer, Pasadena, Md. There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister also survive: C. Wayne Guyer and Merle Guyer, both of Huntingdon. and Vivian Corbin of California. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Guyer and Ronnie Guyer. Mr. Guyer was of the Protestant faith. A 1951 graduate of the Robertsdale High School, he had been employed by Owens-Corning Fiberglas and Huntingdon Area High School, both in Huntingdon. He had also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Following 20 years of service, he retired, in 1990, from Sealy Mattress Company, Baltimore, Md. He enjoyed hunting. Interment will be made in Donation Cemetery, Oneida Township, Huntingdon. Catherine M. LARAIA, 81, of 314 Lexington Ave., Altoona, died Thursday. Sept. 5, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born March 10, 1921, in Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Bigelow) Cutchall. She was married to Louis Laraia. Mr. Laraia preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Judith Laraia, Cleveland, Ohio, and one son, Richard Cutchall of California. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Three sisters survive: Verna Lightner, Petersburg; Francis Feathers, Altoona; and Phyllis Wacker, Pittsburgh. Two grandchildren, Catherine and John Laraia, who were reared in the home, also survive. She was preceded in death by one son, Louis Jr. and one daughter, Gloria Jean. Mrs. Laraia was primarily a homemaker. She did volunteer work for the Association for Retarded Citizens (ARC). Interment will be made in Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. Marcia N. RISHEL, 70, of 249 N. Monroe St., Bellefonte, died at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, College Township, State College. Born Sept. 13, 1931, in Huntingdon, she was a daughter of the late Frederick E. and Blanche (Wagner) Trone She was adopted by Charles H. and Nellie (Grove) Stong, who preceded her in death. She married Lester E. Rishel March 18, 1951, in Petersburg. Mr. Rishel preceded her in death April 19, 1986. She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Mona Beth Rishel-Shissler, Fort Hill; Thomas B. Rishel, Valley View; and Gregg B. Rishel. Layton, Utah. There are four grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Rita Luther of York. and two brothers, Charles Stong, Corryopolis and Kermit Stong, Aberdeen, Md. Mrs. Rishel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellefonte. She was a volunteer for the Centre County Library Association. A 1949 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she was a homemaker. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the First Presbyterian Church, 203 North Spring St., Bellefonte, with the Rev. Douglas S. Elder officiating. GARBER, 82, of 331 Penn St., Huntingdon, died at 2:24 am, Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002, in the Palliative Care Unit at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born June 10,1920, in Blue Ball, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac B. and Mary Ellen (Woomer) Fink. She was united in marriage to Charles J. Garber Oct. 20, 1938, in Maryland. Mr. Garber preceded her in death July 19, 1992. She is survived by six sons and one daughter: Robert H. Garber and Richard L. Garber, both of Huntingdon; Isaac G. Garber, Charles J. Garber Jr. and Donald E. Garber, all of Barree: Marvin L. Garber, Hesston and Jane F Zepp, Manchester, Md. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive; Anna Bowser of Huntingdon and Edith Boonie of Neffs Mills. She was preceded in death by nine siblings and an infant great-granddaughter, Rachel Marie Garber, Nov. 13. 1972.. Mrs. Garber was an active and faithful member of Word of Life Fellowship, Huntingdon, R.R. 2. She was a member and daily participant in the activities of the Standing Stone Senior Citizens Center and during her residency in Barree, she was active in the Juniata Valley Senior Center activities. She had been a resident of Huntingdon County since her marriage. A mother, grandmother and homemaker, she enjoyed all types of crafts. Funeral services will he held at 10 am, Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield, Huntingdon, with Pastor Stephen Watkins officiating. Interment will he made in Mooresville Cemetery, Petersburg. R.R. 2. Ted William MILLER, 65, of HCR 62, Shade Gap, died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002. at the Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg. Born June 18, 1937, in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Howard and Hilda (Baer) Miller. He was married to Isabell Harker June 30, 1973. Mrs. Miller survives at their home. Two daughters survive: Kathy Miller and Jodie Miller Henry, both of Shade Gap. There is one grandson. Two sisters and one brother also survive: Alda Rose Miller, John Miller and Jane Moore, all of Shade Gap. Mr. Miller was of the Protestant faith. Until 1993, he had been employed as a foundry worker He also enjoyed farming. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia, with the Rev. Tim Miller officiating. Interment will be made in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Shade Gap, R.R. Cambridge Graham BECKEL JR., 88, of Charlottesville, Va., died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, in Charlottesville. Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Cambridge Graham Beckel and Helen (Willis) Beckel. He was united in marriage to Christine Brandt. Mrs. Beckel preceded him in death in March 2002. He is survived by three children: Margaret Prota, Collierville, Tenn.; Robert G. Beckel, Bethesda, Md.; and Graham S. Beckel, Los Angeles, Calif. There are seven grandchildren. A graduate of Dartmouth College, Class of 1937, Mr. Beckel received his master's in education from New York University. As an Army Lieutenant in World War II, he served in the North African and Italian Campaigns. He was awarded the Italian Medal for Valor and the Legion of Merit for Distinguished Service. He was an intelligence officer on the staff of Gen. Mack Clark. An educator, he taught for many years in Huntingdon. He also taught in Westfield, N.J., where he was chairman of the history department. He taught education at Queens College and was former director of public relations for the joint council for Economic Education, also in New York. Later, he was a member of the Advisory Board on Teacher Education for the Virginia Department of Education and had his own educational consulting company in Charlottesville. Mr. Beckel authored two books, "Workshops of the World," the Washington State Press, and "Capitol Hill," Shuman and was active in the Democratic Party in Connecticut and Virginia. Interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville, Ohio. Betty J. HOCKENBERRY, 72, of HCR 1, Calvin, died at 2:49 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born May 7, 1930, in Blair County. she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Edna (Hess) Crotsley. She was married to John J. Hockenberry Dec. 25, 1948, in Mapleton. Mr. Hockenberry survives at their home. Four daughters and two sons survive: Jeannette A. Hess, Todd; John C. Hockenberry, Cassville; Bonnie J. Price, Mapleton; Shirley D. Everts, Crystal Springs; David J. Hockenberry, Saltillo; and Patricia C. Oswald, Three Springs. There are 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother and one sister, James Crotsley and Patricia Klaverweiden, both of Jamestown, Calif. She was preceded in death by one sister, Rose Hartley, and two brothers, Raymond "Mike" Crotsley and Willie J. "Barney" Crotsley. Mrs. Hockenberry was a member of Beavertown Bible Church, Todd, R.R. In addition to being a homemaker, she retired from US Sports, Huntingdon and had once been employed by Robin Footwear, Mount Union. She was an avid baker, seamstress and gardener who enjoyed her family. Funeral services will he held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Beavertown Bible Church, Todd, R.R., with the Rev. James S. Thomas officiating. Interment will be made at Cassville Cemetery. hour prior to the service Thursday. Paul Franklin BEAVER, 96, formerly of R.R. 3, Box 25, Huntingdon, Walker Township, died at 1:18 am. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002. at Valley View Haven Retirement Center, Belleville. where he had been residing. Born Nov. 1, 1905, in Entriken, he was a son of the late Samuel Larance and Leda Bessie (Stone) Beaver. He married Beulah Frances Robb Jan. 18, 1925, at the Reformed Church in McConnellstown. Mrs. Beaver preceded him in death July 27, 1988. He is survived by two daughters and one son: Mrs. Zane (Jean) Householder, Warren, Ohio; Frannie Coffman, Altoona; and R. Franklin Beaver, Huntingdon. He is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. One sister, Margaret Thompson of Martinsburg, survives. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul Zane Beaver, in 1926, and two brothers, Ralph and Glen Beaver. Mr. Beaver was an active and faithful member of the Trinity United Church of Christ, Railroad Street, McConnellstown. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, he attended public schools in Marklesburg. He retired in 1970 after many years of service with Reeves Parvin Company, Huntingdon. where he had been a foreman and a salesman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and especially enjoyed his family.. It was Mr. Beaver’s request and the family’s wishes that there he no public viewing or visitation. Private funeral services were held today at the Cutright-Speck Funeral Home, 207 Ridge Road, Smithfield Township, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Dr. Keith A. Kensinger officiating. Interment was made in McConnellstown Cemetery. Frank E. SZCZERBA, 75, of 33 E. Water St., Mount Union, died at 9:45 am. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, following a lengthy illness. Born March 14, 1927, in Huntingdon, he was a son of the late John and Sophia (Szczerba) Szczerba. He was united in marriage to Magdaline "Maggie" Sweatlock July 6, 1957, at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, by the Rev. John B. Golias. His wife survives. He is survived by one daughter, Debra A. Szczerba, Mount Union, and one son. Frank A. Szczerba, DuBois. There are three grandchildren Seven sisters and one brother survive: Catherine Yantz, Mechanicsburg; Mary Panasiti. Tyrone: Stella Bodner, Mount Union: Anna Olivo. John Szczerba, Sophia "Babe" Los and his twin sister, Frances Remek, all of Huntingdon: and Julie Turiano, Altoona. One sister, Sophia Szczerba, preceded him in death. Mr. Szczcrba was a member of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union. He was a lifetime member of both the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign wars Post 1754, Huntingdon, and the American Legion Post, Mount Union. He was also a member of the Huntingdon Moose Lodge, the Mount Union Historical Society, the Mount Union Chamber of Commerce and the Bricktown Seniors of Mount Union. He attended Huntingdon High School. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the Pacific Theater during world War II. He retired in 1987 from Owens-Corning Fiberglas, Huntingdon, where he worked as a mechanic and group leader for 40 years. Most recently, he was co-owner of the Mount Union Car Wash, Mount Union. and the Thirteenth Street Laundromat, Huntingdon. A funeral Mass will he held at 10 am. Thursday, Sept. 12, at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, 205 W. Market St., Mount Union. with the Rev. Elwood Figurelle officiating. Interment will he made in Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon. Elam F. "Jim" HILLYARD, 78, formerly of Belington, W.Va., died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor. For the past six months he has resided with his sister, Mary K. Seltzer, at Huntingdon, RR. 3. He had been in failing health. Born Sept. 17, 1924, in Belington, he was a son of the late Walter and Onie (Philipps) Hillyard. He is survived by the following brother and sisters: Thaona Barker, Warren, Ohio; Mary Kathryn Steltzer, Huntingdon, R.R. 3.; Opal Marie Wagner, Belington, W.Va.; and David Earl Hillyard. Akron, Ohio. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Hillyard was of the Protestant faith. He was a graduate of Belington High School, Belington, W.Va. He was honorably discharged as an Army staff sergeant in 1965 following 22 years of military service, including tours of duty during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he managed several motels and was the owner of a restaurant in Ohio for several years. There will be no local funeral services. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Interment will be made in Valley Bend Cemetery, Belington. Ethelda M. "Petie" ZERCHER, 74, of 26 Ruth Drive, Gordonville, died Monday, Sept. 9, 2002, at her home, following a two-year battle with lung cancer. Born in Three Springs, she was a daughter of Walter E. and Adaline E. (Snyder) Everhart. Her mother survives in Three Springs. She was married to Donald H. Zercher. Mr. Zercher survives. She is also survived by three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Ronald (Cheryl A.) Witman, Narvon; Mrs. Ken (Kathy S.) Bosley, Wahington Borough; Christine E. Whitsel, Manheim; Jack A. Whitsel, Craley; and Thomas L. Whitsel, New Providence. A stepson, Kenneth Zercher, Mannheim, Germany. survives. There are 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One brother and one sister survive: Jack Everhart and Mrs. James (Audrey J.) House, both of Three Springs. Mrs. Zercher was of the Methodist faith. She was a meat wrapper in the deli department of Pathmark Supermarket, Harrisburg and Reading. She retired in 1990 after 20 years of service. She enjoyed crafts, reading, writing letters and going to the seashore and to the Poconos. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 13, at the Andrew T. Scheid Funeral Home, Millersville. Interment was made in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery, Millersville. Harold Eueene "Hat" BROWN, 90, of Warriors Mark, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at his residence. Born Dec. 25, 1911. in Williamsburg, he was a son of the late John Harrison and Pearl (Keller) Brown. He married V. Isabel Clark Sept. 20. 1942. at Spring Mount Church of the Brethren, Warriors Mark. Mrs. Brown survives. One sister; Gladys Ellenberger of Pennsylvania Furnace, survives along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mr. Brown was an active member of the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren where he was a lifetime deacon and was treasurer for 27 years. He was a charter member of the Warriors Mark-Franklin Volunteer Fire Co. and Fire Police and a member of the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1754, Huntingdon, and the Warriors Mark Senior Citizens. He was a 1931 graduate of Petersburg Vocational High School. A veteran of World War II, he was a staff sergeant in the 81st Infantry Division, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific area, from 1942-1945. Prior to that, he was stationed at Fort Indiantown Gap from 1940-1941. in the military reserves. He was employed in the Department of Mineral Industries of Penn State University, retiring in 1974, following 25 years of service. Interment will be made in Spring Mount Cemetery. Lucy Virginia (McClain) CORCELIUS, 86, of R.R. 2, Box 351, Huntingdon, died at 8:40 am. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at her residence. She lived in the Oneida Township area most of her life. Born June 8, 1916, in Ardenheim. Henderson Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ellen (Long) McClain. She married John W. Corcelius in November 1936. Mr. Corcelius preceded her in death June 12, 1977. She is survived by one daughter and one son: Mrs. John (Joan) Madden of Montoursville, and Carl M. Corcelius of Huntingdon. There are nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One son, Charles M. Corcelius, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters: Marlin McClain, Carl McClain, Marie Crouse, Leona Swanger and Zana Long. Mrs. Corcelius was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church, Mill Creek. She attended public schools in Huntingdon County. During the 1940s. she was employed at Hertzler and Zook, Belleville. She later worked at the Greenwood Nursery. She retired from Penn State University in 1977 where she had been a cook. Until recently, her favorite hobby was cooking. She will be most remembered for her great love for her family. She enjoyed bird watching. Funeral services will be held at 11 am. Interment will be made in Mountainview Cemetery, Brady Township, Mill Creek. Cloyd S. "Sonny" RHODES, 64, of James Creek, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born July 18, 1938, in Entriken, he was a son of the late Cloyd H. and Carrie (Norris) Rhodes. He was united in marriage to Barbara Barnett Sept. 23, 1967, in the Trough Creek United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rhodes survives. He is also survived by two sons, Steven C. Rhodes and David R. Rhodes, both of James Creek. There is one grandson. Thirteen brothers and sisters survive. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Hayley. As a child, Mr. Rhodes attended the Entriken Church. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator at New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. for over 30 years. He was also a forest fire warden for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking and cutting firewood. Interment, in the Todd Cemetery, will be private at the convenience of the family. Margaret Ella MILLER, 82, of Woodland Retirement Center, Orbisonia, formerly of Fort Littleton, died at 8:22 am. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at Woodland. Born Dec. 15, 1919. in Mapleton, she was a daughter of the late James Martin and Nettie (Knepper) Gladfelter. She was married to James S. Miller in 1935. Mr. Miller preceded her in death April 27, 1986. She is survived by three sons: Carry E. Miller, Shade Gap; Barry A. Miller, West Palm Beach, Fla.: and James S. Miller Jr., McConnellshurg. There are four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Infant twin girls, Joan and June, preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by one brother, Lester Gladfelter, and three sisters, Beryle Warnick. Louise Wiseman and Mary Everhart. Mrs. Miller was of the Protestant faith. CONESE, 73, formerly of Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon, died at 2:14 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002. at Huntingdon Manor, Warm Springs Avenue, Huntingdon. Born June 9, 1929, in Todd Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Steve and Ann (Madar) Ramper. She was twice married: First to William Geissinger who preceded her in death, then to Frank Conese, who survives at the Cold Springs Road. Four children survive: Lana J. Loomis, Port Richey, Fla.; William David Geissinger and Gerald C. Conese, both of Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon; and Francine M. Barndt, Hesston, R.R. 1. There are three granddaughters. She is survived by four sisters: Anna Schrenkel, Huntingdon; Margaret Ramper and Pauline Murray, both of Todd; and Helen Conner, Calvin. Two brothers, Steve and John, and one sister, Susan, preceded her in death. Mrs. Conese was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Huntingdon. She was the owner and operator of Conese’s Flowers on Cold Springs Road, Huntingdon before retiring in 1991. Her favorite pastime was gardening. Born May 10, 1926, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Ellis J. and Mary G. (Adams) Donahey. He was united in marriage to Audrey S. Shirey June 11, 1948. Mrs. Donahey preceded him in death July 1, 2002. He is survived by a son, Russell H. Donahey of McVeytown. One brother and two sisters also survive: Carl R. Donahey, Lewistown; and Mrs. Jesse (Mabel) Bilger and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Foust, both of McVeytown. He was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Donahey, and a sister, Mrs. Lewis (Margaret) Wilson. She had formerly resided in Alexandria and in Hesston. Death was unexpected. Born Feb. 3, 1909. in Williamsburg, R.R., Blair County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Bessie Jane (Walker) Mench. She was married to Carl Gage Bush June 6, 1928, in Cuyahioga Falls, Ohio. Mr. Bush preceded her in death Aug. 4. 1993. She is survived by one son, Dr. Carl G. Bush Jr., Attleboro, Mass. There are seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Dr. Walter M. Mr. Williams preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1989. She was united in marriage to Henry L. "Hen" Himes, June 15, 1949, in Mount Union. Mr. Himes preceded her in death Sept. 21, 2001. She is survived by their four children: Lydia M. She had been ill for a brief time. Born June 3, 1911, in Robertsdale, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Herbert and Pearl Belle (Shafer) Bollinger. She was united in marriage to Clarence E. "Bud" Harris July 26, 1930, at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Huntingdon, with the Rev. May officiating. Mr. Harris preceded her in death January 6, 1960. She is survived by one son, Dean E. Harris, Smithfield, three grandsons and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Vera Woodle of Huntingdon Manor, Huntingdon, survives. O'DONNELL SR., 78, of HCR 75, Burnt Cabins, died at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. Born June 2, 1924, in Central City, he was the son of the late Roy and Rebecca (Meck) O'Donnell. He married Evelyn Annie Miller Sept. 28, 1946, in Three Springs. Mrs. O'Donnell survives at their home. Eight children survive: Ronald R. O'Donnell, Fannettsburg; William L. O'Donnell, St. Thomas; Harry C. O'Donnell Jr. and Robbie R. O'Donnell, both of Shade Gap; Thomas L. O'Donnell, Mount Union; Joy A. Sollers, Burnt Cabins; and Rebecca E. Ayers, Mercersburg. There are 20 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother survive: Omena Sheeder, Lula Parsons and Richard O'Donnell, all of Dry Run; and Fay Peterson of Spring Run. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters: Clair, Walter, Bob and Kenny and Daisy Evetts, Gladys Watkins, Julia Johnson and Dorothy Pringle. Mr. O'Donnell attended the Calvary Independent Baptist Church, Saltillo. He was a veteran of World war II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre of Operations aboard the USS Tyrell. He was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon and the Victory Medal and was involved in the Philippine Liberation. He was a farmer and a truck driver. CISNEY, 72, of Blairs Mills, died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born May 30, 1930, in Tell Twp., Huntingdon County, he was a son of the late Clyde H. and Emma J. (Goshorn) Cisney. He was married to Leona K. Robinson Dec. 23, 1952, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Cisney survives at their home. Five children survive: Sandra V. Semple, Dennis C. Cisney, Brenda L. Cisney and David W. Cisney, all of Blairs Mills, and Linda K. Coons of Chambersburg. Mr. Cisney was a former director for Juniata Valley Bank, Blairs Mills, and for the Hardwood Lumber Manufacturers Association. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served with the U.S. Army. Born Feb. 27, 1911, in Saxton, she was a daughter of the late Bursie and Earla M. (Nolan) Speck. She was united in marriage to Richard M. Baker Oct. 30, 1933, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Baker preceded her in death Dec. 29, 1983. She is survived by five daughters and three sons: Mrs. William (Marie) Bradford, Belleville; Ronald M. Born Nov. 25, 1910, at Louisa, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Nellie (Compton) Yonts. She married Wilmer N. "Hun" Lane April 20, 1930, at Ravenna, Ohio. Born Aug. 28, 1928, at Rockhill Furnace, he was the son of the late James and Anna (Drake) Pheasant. He was united in marriage to Helen A. Starr July 11, 1953, at Hagerstown, Md. Mrs. Pheasant survives at their home. Three daughters survive: Mrs. Robert (Kathy) McMath, Valencia, Calif.; Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Kough, Saltillo; and Mrs. James (Teresa) Gladfelter, Chambersburg. There are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Manice Wakefield, Orbisonia; Winifred Cooper, Mount Union; and Joanne Gilliland, Rockhill Furnace. Mr. Pheasant was a member of the Rockhill Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Verna Evelyn DORE, 94, of The Oaks at Westminster Woods, 360 Westminster Drive, Huntingdon, formerly of 618 Fourth St., Huntingdon, died at 7:42 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at The Oaks. Miss Dore had been in failing health for several years. Born Jan. 9, 1908, in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late Robert G. Sr. and Edith M. (Condrin) Dore. She never marrried. Four brothers and one sister survive: Melvin Dore, Leesburg, Va.; Harold Dore, Venice, Fla.; and Orville Dore, Glenn Dore and Mrs. John R. (Genevieve Dore) Shoop, all of Huntingdon. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister: Robert, Ralph, Edward, Luther, Sheldon and Gerald Dore and Mrs. William (Edith Dore) Garner. Miss Dore was of the Protestant faith. She was a member of Columbia Typographical Union No. 101-12 (formerly the International typographical Union). A 1927 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she was a linotype operator for The Daily News, Huntingdon; the former Altoona Tribune and a newspaper in the Washington, D.C., area, retiring in 1970. Born Nov. 13, 1926, in Spruce Creek, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Susie (Leidy) Brindle. She was united in marriage to Roy V. States Nov. 18, 1948, at the First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, by the Rev. Rhodes. Mr. States survives at their home. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy H. Brindle. Mrs. States was a member of St. Paul's Church, Hesston. She was a member of the Marklesburg Fire Company Auxiliary, Pennsylvania Farm Association Women, Homewood Auxiliary and the Triangle Homemaker Group. A 1944 graduate of Morrison Cove High School, she was primarily a homemaker. She had, at one time, been a secretary at Roaring Spring Paper Mill, Roaring Spring. Drake St., Mount Union, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, in the emergency room at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born Feb. 24, 1954, in Newton Hamilton, she was a daughter of Robert B. and Iva I. (Treaster) Taylor McCarty. Her mother survives in Mount Union. She was preceded in death by her father and her husband, Robert M. Morder. She is survived by two children: James L. Walker and Governor Walker Jr., both of Mount Union. The following brothers and sisters survive: Carlene Taylor, Alexandria; Robert R. Taylor Sr., James M. Taylor and Mrs. Dennis (Karen) Heaster, all of Mount Union; Diane M. Taylor, Huntingdon, and Mrs. David (Judith) Hockenberry, Hill Valley. Also surviving are 13 nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews. One nephew preceded her in death. A 1973 graduate of Mount Union Area High School, she had been attending Mount Aloysious College, Cresson, at the onset of her current illness. She had worked for Huntingdon County Child and Adult Development Corporation, where she received the Jeffrey Koppel Award in 1996. A writer of poetry, she had two poems published in 1996 in the International Society of Poets. She was also cited by the Mount Union Historical Society in 1996 as an International Poet of Merit. Mrs. Wible preceded him in death Feb. 3, 1997. A former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and a long-time resident of McConnellstown, he had resided in Navarre for the past 11 years. Shirley St., Mount Union, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Jan. 28, 1919, in Orbisonia, she was a daughter of the late John Clyde and Jessie Mae (Snyder) Wilson. She was united in marriage to Leroy G. "Sheen" Kerr, in 1929, in Hancock, Md. Mr. Kerr preceded her in death July 22, 1996. She is survived by a son, Robert W. Kerr of Mount Union. There is one granddaughter. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: Raymond Wilson, Guy Wilson, Mary Grace McMullen and Ester Cramp. WALLACE, 99, formerly of 738 W. 15th St., Tyrone, and a guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, died at 4:05 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Epworth Manor. He was born May 25, 1903, at the Wallace Farm in Union Furnace, the son of the late William M. and Bessie (Gensamer) Wallace. On Feb. 4, 1950, he was married to Margaret I. "Peg" Krider who preceded him in death Sept. 24, 1983. He is survived by one son, Charles Lee Wallace of Union Furnace and three grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Wallace was a member of the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church. He was also a 50 year member of the Jaffa Temple and the Altoona Consistory in Altoona and a 50 year member of the F&AM #494. He was a member of the Standing Stone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1754 and the Howard Gardner Post #281 American Legion and the Tyrone BPO Elks Lodge #212 both in Tyrone. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II with the rank of corporal. His service time during the war was in the African-European-Middle Eastern Theatres. She had resided at the Manor for approximately one year. Born Nov. 1, 1906, at Saxton, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Bessie May (Walls) Speck. After Mr. Speck's death, Bessie May married George Rishel who is also deceased. She was united in marriage to Ray C. Sprankle, Oct. 8, 1924, in Huntingdon, Mr. Sprankle preceded her in death April 4, 1979. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Jean) Nee and Mrs. James (Shirley) Painter, both of Alexandria. She is also survived by one brother, Chester D. Speck, Greer, S.C.; two half sisters, Mrs. Merle (Ruth) Lightner and Mrs Mike (Jeanette) Burja, both of Alexandria; and two half brothers, Edward R. Rishell, Southside, Ala., and Clair Rishell, Potomac, Md. There are eight grandchildren, one step-grandson, ten great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert E. Sprankle, and an infant son, Ray C. Sprankle Jr. Also preceding her in death were four brothers: Everett, Dallas, Robert and John Speck; two sisters: Golda Weaver and Violet Awkerman; and two half brothers: Thomas Rishel and Lester Rishel. Mrs. Sprankle was a member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and a Sunday School Teacher for 50 years. She was a life member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and the Hartslog Valley Grange. She was a charter member of the William C. Spyker American Legion Post No. 520 Auxiliary. For many years, she served on the Porter Twp. Election Board. A lifetime resident of Huntingdon County, she had resided at her Southside, Alexandria home for 63 years. She was secretary of her husband's business, Ray C. Sprankle Enterprises, for over 50 years. Mrs. Sprankle was the creator of the Sprankle Easter Egg display held at her home for many years, with the wishing well donations being given to the Huntingdon County Easter Seal Society, the predecessor of Huntingdon County PRIDE. This display continued until the death of her husband in 1979. The Hartslog Heritage Museum now continues the display each Easter Season. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born April 16, 1944, in Huntingdon, he was the only child of John H. and Virginia M. (Schirm) Montz. Both parents survive at their Huntingdon residence. He was united in marriage to Donna J. Laird Oct. 12, 1968, in Mill Creek, by the Rev. Kane. Mrs. Montz survives at their Brady Twp. home, where they had resided for 33 years. Mr. Montz had been a member of the Mill creek United Methodist Church since March 22, 1970, and was a current trustee. He was a former Brady Twp. surpervisor. A member of the Mill Creek Cub Scout Pack No. 204 Committee since 1979, he had been cubmaster for several years. He was a member of Portage Lodge No. 220 F&AM of Hollidaysburg and Valley of Altoona AASR. He attended Juniata Valley public schools and graduated from Juniata Valley High School with the Class of 1962. He was a 1964 graduate of the Electronics Institute of Pittsburgh. He worked at Huston Ford as a mechanic and was later employed at Elco Corporation, Huntingdon, as a tool and die maker from 1964-1996. For the past six years he has been employed by FCI, Mount Union, as a tool and die maker. A NASCAR fan, he enjoyed going to Talladega Super-speedway in Alabama every year for a race. Altoona, since April 8, 1999, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the home. Born March 17, 1905, in Fowler Hollow, Port Matilda, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Walk) Kennedy. She was married to Jesse J. Light in August 1920. Mr. Light preceded her in death in November 1974. She is survived by three sons and two daughters: Ray L. Light, Altoona; Marian J. Hall, Alexandria; William D. Light, Fairburn, Ga.; Charles Light, Clarks Hills, S.C.; and Pauline McKinney, Tyrone. There are 33 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health. Born Jan. 14, 1938, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Clara (Prough) Stever of Mount Union and the late Paul Westover. He is survived by a daughter, Amanda Westover of Kistler, and two grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister survive: David Westover, Belleville; Duane Burnheimer, Mount Union; and Twila Gearhart, Huntingdon. He is also survived by the following half brothers and half sisters: Carl Westover, Belleville; Wilda Conner and Joyce Dunkle, both of Allensville; Randy Stever, Mount Union; and Larry Stever, Live Oak, Fla. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Rupert; a brother Walter Westover; a sister, Trella Thompson; and a half brother, George Westover. Mr. Westover attended Word of Life Fellowship, Saulsburg, Huntingdon. He was a U.S. Army veteran. For most of his life, he was a farmer and logger at various locations throughout the area. E. Grace LONG, 82, of Morrison's Cove Home, Martinsburg, formerly of Roaring Spring, died at 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at the Home. She had been in failing health for several years. Born Jan. 5, 1920, at Roaring Spring, she was a daughter of the late Wheeler Lorring and Sara Amy (Slick) Isenberg. She was united in marriage to David R. Long, Aug. 26, 1949, in Roaring Spring. Mr. Long preceded her in death May 13, 1988. Two sons survive: Dr. Harold R. Long, Denver, Pa., and D. Ronald Long, Saxton. There are one grandson, three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. One sister, Mary Marko of Central City survives. She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Eshelman. Mrs. Long was a member of Christ United church of Christ, Roaring Spring. Born May 17, 1927, in McVeytown, she was a daughter of the late Foster J. and Irene (Kahley) Wray. She was united in marriage to H. Dean Kennedy April 10, 1948. Mr. Kennedy survives. Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late Thomas and Georgetta (Hoffman) Norris. He was united in marriage to Betty L. (Uttley) Williams May 11, 2000. Mrs. Norris survives. One son, Thomas Myers of Gig Harbor, Wash., survives. There are three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Two sisters survive: Georgetta Ryan, College Park, Md.; and Hilda "Becky" Atkinson, Loganville, Ga. He was preceded in death by seven sisters and one brother. Mr. Norris was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where he was very active. He was a lifetime member of the Frank P. Hommon American Legion Post 24, Huntingdon; and member of F&AM Lodge No. 688, Mount Union; a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; and a member of Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg. He was educated in the Washington, D.C. Schools. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre. For 11 years, he was a volunteer for Hospice, The Bridge, Lewistown. He was associated with Smith's Antiques, Mount Union, for 42 years, purchasing the business in 1979 and retiring in 1988. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born May 18, 1931, in Wood, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Stella (Meck) Bivens. She was united in marriage to James "Butch" Rohrer July 4, 1953, in Laysville. Mr. Rohrer preceded her in death Feb. 3, 1985. She is survived by two daughtes and two sons: Carol Ebersole, Conestoga; Karen Rohrer, Everett; James Rohrer, Waterfall; and Robert Rohrer, Three Springs. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother and three sisters survive: William Bivens, Salem, Ala.; Jacquelyn Ramper, Harrisburg; Shirley Albert, Leesburg, Va.; and Jesse Alther, Middletown. "Mike" LEONARD, 89, formerly of Shirleysburg, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Masonic Homes, Elizabethtown, where he had been residing. Born May 11, 1913, in Shirley Twp., he was a son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Matthews) Leonard. He married the former Alda Jane Love Aug. 16, 1941. Mrs. Leonard preceded him in death July 9, 2000. Three children survive: Barry Leonard, Shirleysburg; Joseph Leonard, Lancaster; and Nancy Leonard, Duncannon. There are three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and four step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Leonard, and one sister, Violet Leonard. Mr. Leonard was a member of the Shirleysburg United Methodist Church. Herbert and Lottie (Speck) Zook. She never married. She is survived by two nieces and a nephew. Annabel Louise BLACK, 89, of Skylight Drive, York, formerly of Waterfall, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at York Hospital, York. Born Dec. 4, 1912, in East McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late William L. and Mary Ida (Owens) Eisaman. She was united in marriage to Daniel M. Black Jan. 16, 1932, at Cumberland, Md. Mr. Black preceded her in death June 25, 1985. She is survived by three sons and one daughter: Roger L. Black, College Park, Md.; D. Allen Black, Lincoln City, Ore.; and Rosanne L. Hotaling, York. There are seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son, George Kent Black, preceded her in death. Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death. David Ford officiating. Frederick M. ISENBERG, 70, of Fredericksburg, Va., died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002. Born in Huntingdon, he was the son of Fred H. and Ruth Gillam Isenberg. He is survived by his wife, Lucille M. Isenberg. One son, Steven M. Isenberg, Herndon, Va., and one daughter, Mrs. Scott (Christy I.) DeHaven, Fredricksburg, Va., survive. Also surviving are one brother, David L. Isenberg, Manassas, Va.; and one sister, Mrs. Joel (Rosalie D.) Kuhns, Wellsboro. A 1953 graduate of Penn State University, he also held a master's degree from the University of Southern California. He served in the U.S Army Crops of Engineers from 1953-1955, serving in France during that time. Mr. Isenberg was employed as a civil engineer for the Ralph M. Parsons Corp. He took part in a number of overseas projects which included a three-year assignment in Saigon during the Vietnam Conflict. On the domestic front, he worked on the Northeast Corridor for Amtrak and on the Washington D.C., Metro Subway. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Spotswood Baptist Church, Fredericksburg, Va., with the Revs. Gerald Hall and Jim Stone officiating. Private interment will be made in Quantico National Cemetery. Kenneth D. "Kenny" Varner, 74, of Lockport Road, Lewistown, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Hershey Medical Center. Born May 27, 1928, in Huntingdon County, he was the son of David S. and Dorothy (Byers) Varner, both deceased. He was married to the former Emma M. Casner, who preceded him in death July 8, 1997. He is survived by his companion, Frances Rupp of Lewistown, and six children: Mrs. Melvin (Mary Jane) Fultz, Betty Fortney, James K. Varner, Judy M. Varner and Andrew D. Early in life, Mr. Varner was employed by Harbison-Walker Refractories in Mount Union. He gave 36 years of service to the Arrow Shirt Factory in Lewistown and last worked for J.M. Holly Springs, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, in Harrisburg Hospital. She was born Nov. 3, 1931, in Huntingdon, a daughter of late Fred and Louise (Dorn) Mills. She is survived by her husband, Robert D. Burgess; two sons, Frederic R. Burgess of Carlisle and James L. Burgess of Dillsburg, and one grandson. Mrs. Burgess is survived by two brothers, Edward Mills of Mount Union and Joseph Mills of Staunton, Va.; a sister, Frances Grimes of Carlisle, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Burgess was an active member of the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, where she served on the pastor-parish committee and the turkey dinner committee. She was a graduate of Mount Union Hugh School and Shippensburg State Teachers College and retired as an English teacher from the Lamberton Middle School in Carlisle. She served as treasurer of the Mt. Holly Springs Golden Agers and was a member of the Mt. Holly Springs Civic Association, Mt. Holly Springs Shade Tree Commission, Shippensburg University Alumni Association, Pennsylvania State Education association and the National Education Association. Mrs. Burgess was a former treasurer of Safe Harbour board of directors and a former member of the Carlisle YWCA board of directors and the American Business Women's Association. She had served as a judge in regional "History Day" competitions at Shippensburg University and as an announcer for the Central Pennsylvania Spelling Bee. She was a volunteer with the Cumberland County Office of Aging, serving as an "Apprise" health insurance counselor for Medicare beneficiaries and with the Triad program for increasing cooperation between senior citizens and law enforcement officials. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at the Mt. Holly Springs United Methodist Church, 202 W. Butler St., with the Rev. Bradley C. Knepp officiating. RIGHTENOUR, 68, of Definance, died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Altoona Hospital, Altoona. Born Jan. 16, 1934, in Dudley, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Margaret (Black) Fleck. She is survived by one son, Patrick J. Kolinchak of Roaring Spring, and one daughter, Pamela J. Williams of Virginia. There are two grandchildren. One brother and one sister also survive: Wallace Fleck of Defiance, and Patty Cerchiara of Gibsonia. She is also survived by four nephews and two nieces. Mrs. Rightenour was a member of Six Mile Run United Methodist Church. A graduate of Saxton-Liberty High School, she worked as a cementer of Cove Shoe Co., Martinsburg, for 28 years. Diane Patricia DEPEW, 43, of 4435 Garden St., Philadelphia, died at 2:47 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, at Raystown Resort, Lincoln Twp., Huntingdon County. She had been in fair health. Born May 7, 1959, in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of James and Edna (Goode) Hagen. Her mother survives at her Delaware residence. Her first union was with Steven H. DePew, who preceded her in death. Her second union was with Richard L. Stanley, who survives at their Philadelphia home. Mrs. DePew is survived by her paternal grandparents, Carl and Margaret Wilson, and four daughters and one son: Diane Marie DePew, Peggy DePew, Cyndi Stanley, Stephanie DePew and Doug Stanley. Two grandchildren survive. Mrs. DePew is survived by one sister and one brother, Denise Schwiezer and James Hagen, both of Philadelphia. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer DePew. Mrs. DePew attended Clara Barton Elementary School and Frankford High School. She was employed as a nurse's aide and as a flooring consultant. She enjoyed cooking, outdoor activities and horseback riding. A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Daniel A. FORTSON SR., 52, of Altoona, formerly of Mount Union, died Oct. 28, 2002, at Bon Secours-Holy Family Regional Health Center, Altoona. He had been in failing health. Born Sept. 17, 1950, in Huntingdon, he was a son of Gladys (Williams) Fortson of Mount Union and the late Robert Fortson. He had been married to the former Delores Bridger of Altoona. He is survived by his companion of 15 years, Janet Reed, Altoona. Two children survive: Felicia Trice, Hagerstown, Md.; and Danny Fortson Jr., Oakland, Calif. He is survived by seven stepchildren: Tanya Bosnick, Tammy Bridger, David Reed, Mark Reed, Randy Reed, Lori Reed and Amy Reed, all of Altoona. There are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson. The following brothers and sisters survive: Ronald Fortson, Fort Worth, Texas; Donald Fortson, Mrs. Montague (Joan) Walker, Willard Fortson and Mrs. Roger (Jean) Trice, all of Mount Union; Dale Fortson, Harrisburg; Marjorie Fortson, Lancaster; Patricia Ann Fortson, Owings Mills, Md.; and Charles Fortson, Colorado Springs, Colo. He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Fortson. Mr. Fortson attended the Mother Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, Altoona. He was a member of the Arondale Elks Lodge, Altoona. A graduate of Mount Union Area High School, Class of 1969, he will be remembered as a high school basketball standout, having held the single game scoring record in Mount Union for many years. Following high school, he attended Shriner's College in Texas. He had been employed for 18 years by the New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. He then worked for McCartney's office Supply, Altoona, for eight years. He loved fishing and spending time at the river. Doris Louise DUNKLE, 71, of HCR 61, Box 329, Mill Creek, died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Centre Community Hospital, State College, following an extended illness. Born Jan. 8, 1931, in Brady Twp., she was a daughter of the late Ralph James and Pearl Belle (Skipper) Bowser. She was united in marriage to Robert Earl Dunkle, April 13, 1951, in Mill Creek. Mr. Dunkle survives. One daughter, Patricia A. Rux, Mill Creek, survives. There are two grandchildren and one great-grandson. She is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Kathleen "Cass" Harris, Larry Bowser and Robert "Pete" Bowser, all of Huntingdon; Donald Bowser, Mill Creek; Zana Lee Thompson, Mechanicsburg; and Carol Ann Hatch, Baltimore, Md. She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Henry, and one brother, Richard Bowser. Mrs. Dunkle was a member of the Mill Creek United Methodist Church. She was a member of numerous civic and social organizations in the area. A 1947 graduate of Huntingdon High School, she had been employed at the former L. Greif Brothers Sewing Factor, Mount Union, for 15 years. She served for many years as church secretary of the Fifteenth Street United Methodist Church, Huntingdon, until her retirement in 1996. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Mill Creek United Methodist Church, Mill Creek, with the Rev. David Dearing, assisted by the Rev. Faust Hissong, officiating. Interment will be made in Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg. Richard CONCEPCION, 53, of R.R.3, Box 331-A, Huntingdon, died at 1:03 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. Born March 5, 1949, in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, he was a son of Celedonio Concepcion and Catalina (Valentin) Concepcion Malave. His father preceded him in death. His mother and stepfather, Ruben Malave, survive at their Casselberry, Fla., residence. He was united in marriage to Deborah L. Corcelius Nov. 22, 1970, at the Huntingdon County Courthouse by the Honorable Judge Morris M. Terrizzi. Mrs. Concepcion survives at the couple's Henderson Twp. residence, where they had resided since 1989. He is survived by one daughter and one son: Donna Lopez, San Marcos, Texas, and Richard Concepcion Jr., Las Vegas, Nev. There are four grandchildren. Three sisters and one brother also survive: Carmen Meadows, Orlando, Fla.; Maria Perez, Winter Springs, Fla.; Samuel Concepcion, Casselberry, Fla.; and Isabel Wales, Winter Springs, Fla. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Concepcion was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, Henderson Twp., Huntingdon. He graduated from Samuel Gomper High School, Bronz, New York, N.Y., with the Class of 1967. Until his retirement in 1996, he was employed by Owens-Corning Fiberglas for 15 years. He enjoyed fixing clocks and tinkering. A memorial service will beheld at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with The Rev. Richard L.
