Shafer, 74, a lifetime resident of 631 Sixth St., Huntingdon, died at 3:09 a.m. Monday, July 23, 1990 in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon, following an extended illness. Born in Huntingdon on July 22, 1916, he was a son of the late William Henry and Dora L. (Drake) Shafer. He was united in marriage with the former Elizabeth Isenberg Postlethwaite on April 5, 1939, at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Manse, by the Rev. John Thompson Peters. Surviving are his wife, at their home, a son, the Rev. Tim Shafer, of McConnellstown; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a brother Donald C. Shafer, Huntingdon. Preceding him in death were a daughter Carol E. Asendorf, a son, who died in infancy, and three brothers. Mr. Shafer was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, McConnellstown. He was also a charter member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 976, Huntingdon, and a member of the Stone Creek Valley Lions Club. A 1934 graduate of Huntingdon High School, he was owner-operator of Shafer's Grocery on Sixth St., in Huntingdon. A private graveside service will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery by the Rev. Tim Shafer. Friends may call at the parsonage (second floor) of Heritage Baptist Church, McConnellstown, on Thursday, from 7-9 p.m. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Instead, memorial gifts, in Mr. Shafer's name, be sent to the Memorial Fund of Heritage Baptist Church, P.O. Box 68, McConnellstown, Pa. 16660.
