She had been in failing health for the past five years. Born March 3, 1913, in Smithfield Township, Huntingdon County, she was a daughter of the late Homer Justice Sr. and Jennie (States) Kann. On Jan. 5, 1934, she was united in marriage with Donald C. Shafer, by the Rev. R.E. Webb, at Cumberland, Md. Surviving are her husband, at their home; three children: Jack D. Shafer of Middletown, Ohio, Mrs. Ronald B. (Donna) Rinker of Huntingdon and Mrs. Richard (Linda) Welter, Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Charles (Annie) Felder, in Punxsutawney, and a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were four brothers: Fred Kann, Paul Kann, Harold Kann and Homer Kann Jr. Until becoming ill, Mrs. Shafer was an active member of the Abbey Reformed Church of Christ, Huntingdon, and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Educated in the public schools in Smithfield Township and Huntingdon High School, Mrs. Shafer had been employed for a number of years as a sales person at the Shaffer Store on Washington St., Huntingdon, a part of the Shaffer Stores of Altoona chain. Her entire life was spent in the Huntingdon area. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Gary H. Marcy officiating. Interment will be in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon R.D. 1. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday, after 7 p.m., and Sunday, from 9 a.m. until the hour of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions, in remembrance of Helen Isabel Shafer, may be given to the Memorial Fund, The Abbey Reformed Church, Sixth and Church Sts., Huntingdon, Pa. 16652.
