Shafer, 73, Huntingdon R. D. 2 (Jackson Township) died about 1:40 p.m. Monday, March 26, 1979, at the J. C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He had been in failing health for the past six months, and entered the hospital yesterday afternoon. Born May 30, 1905, in Huntingdon, he was the son of William H. and Dora L. (Drake) Shafer. He was united in marriage to Vanetta Mosby. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, John F. Shafer, Erie. Four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive. Two brothers, Donald C. Shafer, Huntingdon R.D. 2, and Frederick G. Shafer, Huntingdon also survive. Two brothers preceded him in death. He was a member of the Abbey United Church of Christ, Huntingdon. Most recently he had been employed by PennDOT in Huntingdon, and had previously been employed at John D. Grove and Sons, at both an auto mechanic. In 1968 he retired from employment from PennDOT. He was educated in Huntingdon public schools, and had spent his entire life in the Huntingdon area. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family on Wednesday afternoon, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, Huntingdon, with the Rev. Chris Currier officiating. Interment will be made in the Huntingdon Memorial Gardens. It was Mr. Shafer's request that there be no viewing or visitation.
