At his residence in Shirley township, on the 4th inst., Major John Shaver, in the 65th year of his age. The deceased was a native of this county, born and raised in Shirley township, his parents having been amongst the earliest settlers.-Some years ago he occupied the position of Sheriff of this county, and at the close of his term he retired to the farm on which he resided at the time of his death. He was known during his life as a good citizen, an honest man, and one whose loss will be deeply felt in the family circle, in the neighborhood, and in society. He leaves a large family, together with numerous friends, relatives and acquaintances, to mourn his departure. May He "who tempereth the winds to the shorn lamb," sustain them in this greatest of all earthly bereavements. Huntingdon Journal and American, Wednesday, June 10, 1863
