Shoop, 86, of 197 Main street, P.O. Box 272, Mapleton Depot, went home to be with the Lord at 10 p.m., on Saturday, April 26, at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. He has been n failing health since January. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 30, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Officiating was Pastor Woody Leighy and interment was made in the Mapleton IOOF cemetery. Mr. Shoop was born on April 13, 1922, in Mapleton Depot and the son of the late Samuel L. and Viola (Lamberson) Shoop. He was married to Geneva P. "Sis" (Covert) Shoop on February 19, 1944, at the EUB Church parsonage, Mapleton Depot, by the Rev. E. E. Dunkleberger. His wife survives at their home. He also is survivied by a brother: James "Jim" Shoop of Mapleton bepot; a special niece; several special nephews; a brother-in-law end two sister-in-laws. Mr. Shoop was preceded in death three brothers: Leslie Shoop; Charles Shoop; William Shoop; a sister Mary Brumbaugh and also a nephew who was raised in his home, Richard Shoop. He graduated from Mount Union High School in 1941. Mr. Shoop received an honorable discharge from the US Army after serving during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations. He served with the 14'1' Armored Division as an assistant tank operator. He retired in 1986 after 44 years employment with the Harbison Walker Refractories in Mount Union. Mr. Shoop was a lifelong member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mapleton Depot. He was a life member of the Mapleton American Legion Post. Mr. Shoop and his wife loved to travel in their camper.
