Smith, 82, of Mountain Foot Road, Neelyton was pronounced dead at 7:20 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, at his home. Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 1 at the Martin R. Brown Funeral Home, Orbisonia with Rev. Megan Boozer and Rev. Karen Willis officiating. Interment was made at the Neelyton Pine Grove Cemetery, Neelyton. He was born January, 17, 1925 in Dublin Township, Huntingdon County and was the son of the late Frank and Grace (Flood) Smith. He was married to the former Emma Mae Hower on June 18, 1949 at the Richvale United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith preceded in death October 10, 1994. Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters: Pamela R. Allison of Neelyton; Deborah A. Snider and her husband, Jody of St. Thomas and Sherri L. Baker and her husband, Robert of Spring Run. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: J.R. Smith; Ryan Smith; Tyler Snider; Amanda Snider; Ashley Baker; Bobby Baker and Brett Baker. One great granddaughter, Jennifer Smith. One sister survives, Joan Soccio of Lewistown. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one son, James R. Smith Jr.; one brother, Robert Smith and four sisters; Kay Pyles; Vivian Smith; Arlene Flasher and Helen Tschopp. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army. An avid hunter and farmer he will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Smith was a member of the Neelyton Pine Grove Presbyterian Church, Neelyton. He was a member of Dry Run Post 232 American Legion, Dry Run and Blue Juniata Post 5754 V.F.W., Mount Union. Mr. Smith retired from PennDOT, prior to that he was a construction worker and a lifelong farmer.
