On Thursday, the 10th instant, at Athens, in the State of Tennessee, Letitia N. Smith, widow of Richard Smith, Esq., of Huntingdon. Mrs. Smith had left Pennsylvania only a few weeks, in company with her nephew Mr. Van Dyke, with whom she intended to spend the remainder of her days. They reached Athens, his place of residence, about the first of June. Notwithstanding the fatigue of so long a journey, her health appeared as good as usual. She attended a Sabbath-school celebration on the 4th of July. - In the evening she complained of a slight headache, which, however, rapidly increased, causing excruciating pain. Her mental powers yielded to the intensity of her bodily sufferings, and during the last two or three days of her mortal existence she appeared quite insensible. Thus in the mysterious dispensation of an All-wise Providence, she was denied the privilege in her last moments of bearing testimony to the faithfulness of a Saviour's love, and to the excellence of that religion, of which she had been for many years a worthy and consistent professor. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The circumstances attending the death of Mrs. Smith, were communicated to a lady of this place and this brief notice will, no doubt, be read with feelings of deep emotion by her numerous friends. Those who knew her best loved her most. Huntingdon, July 30, 1845 O. Huntingdon Journal, Wednesday, July 30, 1845
