Huntingdon Local News: A Hebrew named David Smolensky hanged himself at Dudley on Wednesday evening. He was a peddler, and the last time he was seen alive was at Dudley station at 4.30 o'clock that afternoon, when he returned from a trip with a pack on his back, and went directly to the house of Jere. Sullivan in the town, where he boarded. Later in the evening Mr. Sullivan went to the stable to feed his cow, when he discovered the lifeless body of Smolensky hanging by a cord to a beam. The 'squire was at once notified and an inquest was held. Smolensky was aged about 22 years, and was known as an industrious, sober young man, and the news of his sad taking off was a surprise to the community. He was not married, and the reason alleged by some is that he was in love with a Hebrew maiden in Huntingdon, whom he called to see a few days since with a view to matrimony, but with what success is not known. The deceased has a brother in the mercantile business in New York who has been notified of the death. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, January 24, 1891
