Monday, August 1, 1938. p. 5 HOWARD A SNYDER DIES IN TENNESSEE Insect Bite Causes Death Of Former Huntingdon Resident A pall of gloom was cast over Huntingdon on Saturday when it became known that Howard A. Snyder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Snyder, of 416 Mifflin street, had died at the Takohoma Hospital in Greenville, Tennessee, on Saturday morning, July 30, 1938, at 3 o’clock, A week prior to his death he was bitten by an insect in the left arm. An infection set in which was the immediate cause of his death. Mr. Snyder had been supervisor of Forest Rangers in Greenville, N.C., since April 1, 1938, and prior to that time was located in Tallahassee, Florida. He was on a lecture tour when he was bitten by the insect, but did not notice any particular discomfort until returned to his home at Greenville. He was born in Huntingdon on January 18, 1908, and was the son of Walter A. and Nellie (Smith) Snyder. At the time of his death he was aged 30 years, 6 months and 12 days. Howard A. Snyder had attended the public schools in Huntingdon and had attended Forestry School in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Since graduation from Forestry school he had been located in the Southland. On June 8, 1930, he was united in marriage to Flora Mae Holland, of Raleigh, North Carolina. To this union two children were born, both of whom survive. He was a member of the Presbyterian church at Greenville and was affiliated with several lodges there. Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs. Flora Mae Snyder, and two children, Ann and Daniel; his parents, Mrs. And Mrs. Walter A. Snyder, these brothers and sister: Harrison Snyder, Fred Snyder, John Snyder, Daniel Snyder and Miss Anna Snyder, all of Huntingdon. During his school days in Huntingdon, Howard worked at the Huntingdon Monitor office. He was a faithful and diligent worker, always doing his “job” well, no matter how great or how small. Funeral services were held at the Mitchell funeral home in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Sunday evening, July 31, at 5 o’clock. The Rev.
