"Tex" Somers, 82, formerly of Huntingdon and Mount Union but a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home since 1996, died at 12:58 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the home. He has been in failing health. Private funeral services were held at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Grundon officiating. Interment was in the Mount Union Cemetery. Born April 19, 1913, in Indiana, Pa., he was the son of Charles Chalmer and Myrtle Adele (Parmalee) Somers. Surviving is a son, Norman Kit Somers. Also surviving is a brother, E. Duane Somers of Shippensburg, three nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Somers, who was killed in action in World War II. Mr. Somers attended the Mount Union High School, graduating in the Class of 1933. He served two tours of duty in Japan, Korea, and Germany. He also served in Germany, Japan, France, England and Korea during WW II and afterward till his retirement from the U.S. Army in 1969. After his retirement from the military he was employed by the Huntingdon County Library and SCI for a number of years. He was of the Methodist faith.
