Starr, and one of the oldest residents of Huntingdon County,died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Julia Piper, on the old Starr homestead in Shade Valley, after a brief illness in her 87th year. Mrs. Starr was known throughout the southern part of the county as a most active woman for her advanced years. She attended the funeral of her son-in-law, Edward A. McGarvey, at Shirleysburg, two weeks ago, and seemed as agile as a person half her age. While she had her home with her daughter, Mrs. Piper, she made extended visits in this city with her daughter, Mrs. Samuel McGarvey. She always busied herself in the homes of her children, cooking and sewing, without the aid of eyeglasses. Mrs. Starr, prior to her marriage with Jacob Starr, was Miss Gallagher, a native of Newark, N.J. She was the mother of fifteen children, several of whom survive. Her husband died several years ago. She was a devout member of the Catholic church and was highly esteemed by all who had her acquaintance and friendship. She was kind and lovable, and always manifesting a deep interest in her children and grandchildren, and in those with whom she was associated. Surviving are these children; Simon Starr, Mrs. William McMath, Mrs. Chauncey Piper, Shade Valley; Mrs. Elizabeth McGarvey, this city; Mrs. Samuel Adams, Garnet, Mont.; Andrew Starr, Akeley, Pa; Guy Starr, Homestead; Mrs. Della Krugh, Munhall, Pa. She is also survived by forty-two grand children and thirty-eight great grandchildren. Two brothers also survive, John Gallagher, Brisbin, Pa., and James Gallagher, Sligo, Clarion County. Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cedar Rock, Tuesday in charge of Rev. Father Kerkoska, rector of St. Catherine's church, this city, also St. Mary's.
