Her condition today is reported as weaker. Members of the family have been at the bedside since her removal to the hospital. Mrs. Steel was injured in jumping from a runaway automobile. CONDITION IS SERIOUS. Mrs. Josephine Steele, aged 58, of Warriors Mark, who suffered a fractured skull in an automobile accident last Saturday, still remains in an unconscious condition at the Altoona hospital. She is gradually growing weaker with little hopes held out for her recovery. The family is at the bedside. JUMP FROM AUTO FATAL TO WOMAN Mrs. Josephine Steel, aged 58, residing near Warriors Mark, died at 9.15 o'clock this morning at the Altoona hospital of a fractured skull suffered shortly before noon Saturday, Oct. 18, when she jumped from a runaway automobile. Mrs. Steel, rendered unconscious in the accident, failed to regain consciousness at the hospital, being in a state of come for six days. Relatives were at the bedside continuously. Mrs. Steel was returning to her home on Saturday morning accompanying her grandson, James McCoy, who drove the automobile. As the car was descending the Shoenberger hill, three miles below Tyrone, the rear axle of the machine broke and the car ran away down the grade. The grandson steered the machine to the side of the hill and into the bank, Mrs. Steel jumping from the machine. She suffered a skull fracture, fracture of several ribs and fracture of the left arm. Her skull was badly crushed. Mrs. Steel resided at the McCoy home at Warriors Mark. The remains were prepared for burial by Funeral Director S. P. Hickey and sent to Warriors Mark this afternoon. Mrs. Josephine Steel, who died at the Altoona hospital yesterday as a result of injuries suffered in the automobile accident last Saturday near Tyrone, will be buried from the McCoy home at Eden Hill, near Warriors Mark, at a time to be announced later. Mrs. Steel was aged 63 years, being a daughter of William and Rebecca Morrisey. She was born in Ohio. She was married 43 years ago to Samuel Steel. The husband and the following sons and daughters survive: William, Warriors Mark valley; Mrs. Louis Myers, Tyrone; Mrs. A. L. Shoffe, Ellsworth; George and Lloyd of Warriors Mark valley. One daughter, Sarah, preceded the mother to the grave. Four grandchildren, James E. McCoy, Lillian M. Rhodes, Eva M. Steele of Warriors Mark valley and Mrs. Samuel Mo*zer of Altoona also survive. The following brothers, sisters and half brothers and sisters survive: Ellsworth Morrisey, Mrs. Henry Wills, Mrs. W. M. Wills, Mark Miller, Mrs. Harry Miller and Wayne Miller, all of Tyrone.
