Stoner, PO Box 149, Main Street, Mapleton, died at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at his home, following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Jan. 14 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Walsh officiating. Interment was in the Garden of Honor, Mount Union Cemetery. Born Feb. 14, 1922, in Jacobs, Todd Township, Huntingdon County, he was the son of the late Jules and Olive (Hooper) Stoner. He was united in marriage to Evelyn "Mitzie" (Hooper) Stoner on April 30, 1949, at the United Brethren Church, in Hagerstown, Md., by Pastor Teeters. His wife survives along with their two daughters, Debby Miller of West Decatur and Sharon Jenkins of Somerset. Also surviving are four grandsons and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Stoner is also survived by a brother and sister, Wayne Stoner and Freda Cook, both of Todd. He attended the Robertsdale High School. Mr. Stoner served on the USS Bennett, a destroyer, in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He retired from H.J. Williams, York, in construction after 25 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 1754 Huntingdon and the United Steelworkers of America, as well as a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 518, Orbisonia.
