James Thompson, of Birmingham, Dies at the Age of 93 Years. James Thompson, of Birmingham, an aged and respected citizen, breathed his last on Friday at his home after a short illness. When at the age of 17 years Mr. Thompson moved from Philadelphia to his late home and has been a resident of the vicinity ever since. He was well on in life when the Pennsylvania railroad came through the country, and at the time trains first began to run was appointed express messenger and agent. The first position he held up to the time of his death and the latter until about two years since, when the work was put into younger hands. For thirty-five years, through all the vicissitudes of political changes, Mr. Thompson, who was a staunch Republican, dealt out the letters to the people of the vicinity; and this position he also held until death ended his term. Forty years since he was elected to the position of Justice of the Peace and re-elected every term since that time. The deceased has lived to see his great grandchildren grow to be men and women and his descendants are legion. They occupy positions of honor and prominence all over Huntingdon and Blair counties. The venerable man was never sick until the day before his death, when he was stricken with paralysis while at work in the barn. His old age was a green and happy one, unattended with the failing health and mind so incidental to it, but strong, healthy and vigorous. When the last fatal stroke came it was so sharp and sudden that he never realized it. The funeral will take place this morning and will doubtless be an immensely large one, as Mr. Thompson was known all over the country round.
