Wakefield, age 99, formerly of Mount Union, died Sunday, September 17, at Huntingdon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Huntingdon. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 20, at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union. Officiating was Pastor Dayton Sines and Pastor Joan Houck. Interment was made in the Mount Union Cemetery. She was born November 2, 1906, in Mount Union. She was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Essie Mae (Dieutsch) Ripple. She was first married to Raymond Erb, on September 11, 1923, he died December 12, 1930. Her second marriage to Miles Bowser on February 24, 1932, he died April 28, 1936. Third marriage to Harry Wakefield on September 27, 1957, he died in 1971. Mrs. Wakefield is survived by the following children: Charlotte Fletcher of Tyrone; Patsy Mellott of Frackville; Kenneth Erb of RD, McVeytown; Kathleen Durbec of New Cumberland. Also there are 24 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 19 great- great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Betty Grove of Bethlehem. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Erb; a daughter, Donna Fortney; a granddaughter, Ada Durbec; a great-grandson, Ryan Fletcher and a sister, Kathleen Appleby. Mrs. Wakefield was primarily a homemaker but was employed earlier in her life by J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Huntingdon. She loved spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
