'Jo' Wertz, age 82, of Spruce Creek died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005 at 12:35 a.m. at the Philipsburg Hospital. She was born June 9, 1923 in Altoona, the daughter of William and Madeline Swartz Nixon. On Oct. 1, 1948 at Methodist Parsonage, Bedford, she was married to Harold A. "Bear" Wertz Jr. who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2004. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, Rev. H. Aden Wertz III and wife Joan of Morrisdale; Bill N. Wertz of Kissimmee, FL and Jody, wife of David Brisbin of Tyrone; six grandchildren, Crista, wife of Chris Fawls, Tara, wife of Jason Diel, H. Aden Wertz IV, Robert Wertz, Kevin Brisbin and wife Erica, Jennifer Brisbin and Andrew Brisbin and four great grandchildren: Dominic, Justin, Erin and Liam Fawls. Also surviving are two sisters, Marjorie, wife of Donald Kline of Altoona and Ruth, wife of Max Richards of Winter Springs, FL and her mother-in-law Marjorie Wertz of Spruce Creek. She was a graduate of Altoona High School and Altoona Business School. She had been the co-owner with her husband of Indian Caverns and had also been a sales representative for Contempo Fashions. She was a member of the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church and Bible Study group, had been a member of the choir and had served in various ministries of the church. She had been a member of the Tyrone Business and Professional Women's Club, of the Dutch Treat Dinner Club and of the Home Extension. She had served as a volunteer for J. C. Blair Hospital, Huntingdon. She enjoyed spending time with her family, was a wonderful mother and lived as an example of her Christian faith. Funeral service for Mrs. Wertz will be Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Spruce Creek United Methodist Church with Pastor Vance Hart officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Juniata. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Contributions in her memory are requested to the Spruce Creek United Methodist Church, Spruce Creek, PA 16683.
