NEW ERA JOURNAL SEPTEMBER 12, 1907 page 2 LUDWIG WHETSTINE Born in Rothenburg, Germany on December 26, 1828 Mr. Whetstine died at his Petersburg home on Sunday September 1, 1907. He was aged 78 years 8 months and 5 days. In 1863 he emigrated to Philadelphia with his wife and three children. He then purchased a farm on Warriors Ridge. In his later years he moved to his new Petersburg home where he spent his remaining years. His wife Katherine preceded him in death about 10 years ago. He fathered twelve children: Burkett near Huntingdon, Mrs. Shamp, Mrs. Nolder, Mrs. Harshbarger of Altoona, Mrs. Edmiston and Mrs. Anderson of Warriors Ridge, Mrs. Edwards near Alexandria, Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Lovell of Petersburg, and the Misses Mary and Lillie at home. In keeping his Lutheran faith from his home in Germany he belonged to the Petersburg Lutheran Church. Services were on Wednesday at 2pm by the Rev.A.D. Potts.
