"Jiggs" Wilson, 73, of RD2, Box 54, Mount Union, died at 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at Huntingdon Manor. He had been in failing health since February. The funeral service was conducted March 15 at the Robert D. Heath Funeral Home, Mount Union, with the Rev. Robert Davidson officiating. Interment was made in the Mount Union Cemetery. He was born on May 29, 1928, in Orbisonia, the son of Lawrence Swoop and Ann E. (Tell) Wilson Abrashoff. Lawrence was united in marriage to Margaret Louise (Dick) Wilson on April 18, 1952, in Winnfield, La. His wife survives, along with the following children: Ricky E. Wilson, Randall K. Wilson and Amy Diane Gilbert, all of Mount Union. A grandson, James R. Williams of Mount Union, was also reared in the home. Also surviving are three granddaughters, one great-grandson, five great-granddaughters, one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Duane Wilson; a brother and sister, Harry Wilson and Louise Daughenbaugh; and his step-father, Asparuk "Butch" Abrashoff. Following high school at Orbisonia, Mr. Wilson entered the Merchant Marines, where he served for eight years. Subsequently, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, then with the U. S. Army Reserves, Co. C., 491st Engineering Battalion, for 13 years. He was employed at R. B. Maddens in Mount Union as a parts manager. Later he worked as a mechanic for a number of years at Rog Garner Chevrolet, RD Mount Union and at Huston Ford in Mount Union. More recently, he had worked as a field technician for Owens Corning Fiberglas, until retiring on disability in April of 1985. Mr. Wilson was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 107, Mount Union. He was a member of the Allenport United Methodist Church where he was very active with church functions. He taught youth Sunday school class, was a youth leader and participated in the Ladies Prayer Breakfasts. Jiggs loved to spend time tinkering with anything mechanical.
