Death was attributed to heart disease. His death was entirely unexpected. Wednesday his wife went to Indianapolis on a visit and was away when the judge died. Judge Bell was born Sept. 30, 1849, in Antis township, Blair county, where his ancestors were settlers prior to the Revolutionary war. The town of Bellwood is called for the family. Martin Bell was graduated from Bucknell University in 1869 and was admitted to the bar in 1873. He was elected district attorney of Blair county in 1886 and served two terms in that office. In 1869, he was elected judge on the Republican ticket and was re-elected at the end of his term. The judge was an active and successful manager of local Republican politics, and a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity. Judge Bell had been in feeble health for the past year and was frequently unable to conduct court, about half of this year's work being done by Judge Shull of Perry County.
