Some weeks ago Mr. Dias suffered injuries in an automobile accident and as a result he remained at his home until a week before he went to Seward. Two weeks ago he suffered a heart attack, later developing pneumonia. Thomas Dias was born in Brushvalley, Indiana county, Dec. 25, 1846, a son of the late James D. and Anna Foust Dias. He and Miss Elizabeth Mack were married soon after the Civil War and made their home in Indiana county and later at Seward. Thomas Dias was a brother of Alexander Dias, Florida; John Dias, Dilltown, and Mrs. Catherine Altemus, Ligonier, Ind. Many years ago Thomas Dias was engaged in farming in Indiana county, but later was engaged in the livery business in Seward, coming to Johnstown about 15 years ago. His wife's death occurred about 1890. Mr. Dias is survived by a son, Edward Dias, Seward; a daughter, Mrs. Lydia Fry, New Florence; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Thomas Dias served in Co. D. Eleventh regiment. Pennsylvania volunteers, having enlisted in Indiana. He was badly injured in the battle of the Wilderness. Mr. Dias joined Emory Fisher post, No. 30, G. A. R., 36 years ago and was an honorary member of Naomi Parsons tent, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War. The death of Thomas Dias reduces the roster of Emory Fisher post to 16, including Commander John H. Brown, who is critically ill. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from the Edward Dias home in Seward. Interment will be in the Armagh cemetery.
