Silver King, 77, Penn Run, died Saturday, July 31, 1971, at Indiana Hospital, where
he had been a patient for the past two weeks. A son of George and Ollie Long Shields
Donahue, he was born May 16, 1894, in Dixonville. He was a retired coal miner,
having been employed by the R & P Coal Co., for over 50 years, and was a veteran of
World War I, serving with Co. F. He was a lifetime resident of Indiana County,
having resided in the Penn Run area for the past 27 years, and was a member of UMWA
Local No. 599 of Ernest. Surviving are four sons: Leonard, Indiana; Kenneth,
Kirkland, Ohio; James, Cheektawaga, NY; William, Marion Center; three daughters,
Mrs. Edgar (Mary) Butterbaugh, Cherry Tree; Mrs. Ted (Thelma) Kisielnicki,
Hyattsville, Md.; Mrs. Ruth Carley, Indiana; 43 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchild,
four brothers: Richard Shields and Walter Shields, both of Indiana; Francis Shields,
Silver Creek, NY; Moody Shields, Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters: Mrs. William
(Rosemary) Ewing, Penn Run; Mrs. Charles (Elva) Dennison, Lake Moore, Ohio. He was
preceded in death by his first wife, Minta Byers Donahue in 1954; his second wife,
Ruth V. Shank Donahue in 1970; and a daughter, Grace Folckemer in 1958. Friends will
be received at the Richard T. Bell Funeral Home, Indiana, where services will be
held Monday, the Rev. David L. Boland officiating, interment will be in Oakland
Cemetery, Indiana.
