Vitals: Obits: Dickson, Samuel, Indiana Co, PA SUBJECT: Samuel DIXON of Indiana Co., Obituary SUBMITTER: Michael S. Caldwell EMAIL: msc@juno.com DATE: Jan 02, 1999 SURNAMES: DICKSON, DIXON Samuel Dixon Hit and Instantly Killed Near Home This Morning. HE WAS VERY DEAF. Samuel Dixon, aged about 70 years, and a widely known resident of this section, where he had lived all his life, was struck and instantly killed by the Indiana Branch train of the Pennsylvania railroad at Twolick, at 10:20 o'clock this morning. His body was completely severed at the hips and the mangled remains were strewn for a distance of 50 feet from the scene of the accident. The tragic accident occurred at the curve just beyond the Twolick station. The deceased, who is very hard of hearing, was walking toward Indiana and did not hear the approach of the train. Just as the train rounded the curve, the engineer saw the man on the tracks and quickly applied the brakes, but before the train could be stopped it hit and instantly killed Mr. Dixon. The mangled remains were gathered together and placed in the baggage car and brought to Indiana, where they are being prepared for burial in one of the local undertaker's rooms. Coroner H.B. Buterbaugh will conduct an inquest this evening and it is conceded that the railway company will be absolved from all blame as the accident was plainly the cause of trespassing. It is understood that Mr. Dixon had been warned upon several occasions to refrain from walking on the tracks of the railroad as well as on the tracks of the Indiana County Street Railways company, as it was a dangerous practice. The deceased, who was a son of the late Samuel Dixon, of Center township, was born and lived all his life in the old stone house at Twolick. He was always industrious and for many years conducted the grocery store at Twolick. He was also an apiarist and sold honey to many persons in this section. It is not believed that he has any surviving relatives. Owing to the suddenness of his death and the absence, so far, of any friends, the arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
