Gardner, 78, Blairsville RD 4 (Burrell Township), died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at the Indi- ana Hospital. The son of Earlston and Arminta Crawford Gardner, he was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Punxsutawney. He graduated from Indiana High School in 1938 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a machinist for Penn Parts Co. in Blairsville for 35 years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Indepen- dent Baptist Church, Blairsville, where he served as deacon. He is survived by his wife, Do- rothy I. Compton Gardner; sons David L., Shelocta, and Gregory T. and wife, Brandy, Leesburg, Va.; daughter Ms. Donna Garder, Cen- treville, Va.; brothers Earl Gard- ner, Tavares, Fla., and Ben Gardner, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; sister, Mrs. Doris Stumpf, Creekside; and three grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie and Saman- tha Gardner. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairs- ville. Funeral services will be held Saturday al 1 p.m. at the Indepen- dent Baptist Church, Blairsville, with Pastor Doug McCord officiat - ing. Interment will follow in the Blairsville Cemetery. Veterans ser- vices will be accorded by VFW Post 5821. Memorial contributions may be made to the Independent Baptist Church, Blairsville.
