Jeffries, one-time high sheriff of Indiana County, died at 2:45 p.m. Firday in his home in Rochester Mills. A son of Noah & Miriam Work Jeffries, he was born in Grant township August 9, 1865. He was educated in the public schools of that township and for more than 20 years followed the lumber business, becoming an expert sawyer. He was connected with the administration of law in his community for a number years, having served a ten year term as constable. In 1908 he was the cnadidate for the Republican nomination for sheriff, but was defeated. In 1911 he again was a candidate, winning the office by a large majority. Nothing could more clearly show Mr. Jeffries' character and determination than the story of the campaign which preceded his election. He made a tour of the county on foot and by his force and qualifications, his honesty and integrity of purpose, gained the friends to assure his election. On February 19, 1889 he was married to Miss Elizabeth Rittenhouse, a daughter of John B. & Margaret (Bhe) Rittenhouse of Rochester Mills. Surviving are his widow and 14 children, 42, grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and two sisters: SAra & Mayme Jeffries, both of Indiana. Services will be conducted at his late residence at 3 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Rochester Mills.
