Johnson, 57, Main St., Hawthorn (Clarion County), former- ly ofIndiana, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998 at Clarion Hospital. The son of Chester L. and Marie Schmeltz Johnson, he was born Nov. 3, 1940, in Forest Hills. On July 26, 1958, he married Peggy L. Haines Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a carpenter and belonged to the Carpenter's Union for 30 years, was a member of the Heilwood Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Carpenter's Union 1419, Johnstown. He was well known in the Western Pennsylvania dirt track racing circle for the last 25 years. Surviving are his wife; a son, Chester C. Johnson Jr., Penn Run; three daughters, Mrs. George (Ly- nette) Clawson, Home; Hansine Johnson, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Rick (Barbara) Stewart, Indiana; a sis- ter, Mrs. Larry (Hazel) Hill, Penn Run; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received at the Charles D. Alcorn Funeral Home, Hawthorn, on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m and on Monday from 10 a.m. to the time of the service at 1 p.m. The Rev. David Pearce will offici- ate. Interment will be in the Shan- nondale Union Cemetery, Shannondale.
