Kanyan, 91, of Black Lick, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at his home. He was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Graceton, the son of Michael and Susan Mihna Kanyan. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church of Homer City. He was the owner and operator of Kanyan's Novelty Shop for over 60 years. Surviving are one son, Nicholas J. Kanyan, Blacklick; one sister, Kay, married to Michael Halaburda, Brush Valley, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Annette Krivonak Kanyan, and three brothers, Rev. Stephen Kanyan, Joseph and Nicho- las. Friends will be received from 3-5. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home in Homer City where a Parastas Ser- vice will be held at 7:15 p.m. Sunday. A Panachida Service will be held at 9 a:m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the SS. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church with the Rev. John Baranik cele- brant. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery in Indiana. A tree will be planted in living memory for John M. Kanyan.
