Mabon, On Sabbath morning Dec. 16, 1888, of consumption, Mr, Wilson S. Mabon, in the 31st year of his age. The subject of this notice was a member of the U. P. church, of Smyrna, this county, of which his father is a worthy member of session. It was not God's will that he should remain long a member of the church militant, however much we might think he was needed here, but he has taken him to join the church triumphant. After a few months of suffering, the end came, his work was done, and he has gone to his reward. There is much that is sad, in providence like this, that one in the strength of man- hood and with prospects of usefulness should be taken away so soon, but there is also reason to rejoice when God takes them to dwell with Himself. But God's ways are always the best, and it is our duty to submit to his will as manifested in his providence to us. He was patient under all his suffering and while he had many ties to bind him to earth, he was resigned to God's will. His death was peaceful. He bid farewell to his young wife, parents and brother in the hope of a blessed immortality. He trusted all to the merits of Christ. Christ was all his hope and all his desires. As an expression of his appreciation of what Christ and his gospel had done for him, in the distribution of his worldly effects, he gave to the Board of Foreign Missions more than the tithe of what he possessed, to help send the gospel to those that are destitute. "Write, Blessed are the dead, which die in the Lord, from henceforth; yea, saith the Spirit, that they allay rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.
