Vitals: Obits: McMillen, Samuel, Indiana Co, PA SUBJECT: Samuel McMillen SUBMITTER: Lucinda M. Deitman EMAIL: ldeitman@epix.net DATE: Jan 07, 1999 SURNAMES: McMillen Indiana Gazette- November 12, 1946 SAMUEL MCMILLEN, 30-years-old Glen Campbell man, who had been married only two weeks, died at 11:40am today as a result of injuries received when he was crushed beneath an overturned tractor. McMillen is a brother of William McMillen; Indiana County State Assemblyman. The deceased was injured Thursday afternoon when his tractor overturned, while he was returning home from working on a coal-stripping job. He laid unattended near the side of the road between Gipsy and Hooverhurst until late Thursday night, when a passing motorist picked him up and took him to the hospital. He suffered a ruptured bowel and peritonitis had set in, making his condition critical. Hospital attaches reported that he was holding his own Saturday morning, but he had evidently taken a turn for the worse over the long weekend and finally succumbed just before noon today. His family reported that he had taken his tractor to a mine stripping operation between Gipsy and Hooverhurst for the day, and after leaving the operation in the evening, the tractor had overturned before he had gone very far. He was alone and had no way to summon aid, but managed to crawl to the highway, where he was picked up and brought to the hospital. He was the son of Charles S. and Margaret (Rose) McMillen and was born March 16, 1916 in Gipsy. He had been married two weeks ago to Norma Nicely who survives him along with his mother, a step-daughter, Donna Lee Nicely and these brothers and sisters: Mayadore S. at home; William, Blacklick; Mrs. Lena Rager, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. Virginia Gilbert, New Kensington, and Charles McMillen, Aspinwall. Services will be held in the Wilgus Wesleyan Methodist Church with Reverend Daonal Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Rowley Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by the Rairigh Funeral Home of Hillsdale. ----------------------------------------------------- USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free genealogical information on the Internet, data may be freely used for personal research and by non-commercial entities as long as this message remains on all copied material.
