BARBARA ORTNER Mrs. Barbara Ortner died under rather peculiar circumstances at her home near Ouberg, Rayne Township, on Saturday morning at 7:30 o'clock. On the previous evening at 4:30 o'clock while returning home from school, a neighbor's daughter called at the Ortner home and found Mrs. Ortner lying on the floor unconscious. A physician was called but the woman died the folllowing morning without rallying. The deceased had lived alone and was in her usual health on Thursday, but it is supposed that some time early on Friday, she was stricken suddenly ill with ureamic poisoning which was followed by convulsions. Bruises on her face and head likely caused by the fall, and the fact that she was unconscious when found gave rise to suspicions of foul play, and a report reached town that she had been murdered and then robbed, but an investigation proved that nothing in the house had been disturbed, consequently there is nothing substantial to strengthen the theory of murder. At the request of the fa mily County Coroner W.D. Gates held an inquest on Monday evening, but the finding of the jury was that the woman came to her death by natural causes, followed by an attack of convulsions. The deceased was aged 68 years and was the widow of the late John A. Ortner who died then years ago. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. William Graff and Mrs. William Cost of town; Mrs. Barbara Suebart and Annie Ortner of Latrobe; Mrs. William Betts, Mrs. Mary Clark and Mrs. Henry Kuklmcy, all of California; William and Elizabeth of Rayne township and Frank Ortner of Avonmore. She is also survived by these brothers: John Joffman, of town; Nicholas Hoffman, of White township, and George Hoffman of Heilwood.
