Augustus G Rishell, aged 72 years, a prominent citizen of Canoe township, died
Tuesday of last week at his home, near Rossiter, of brain trouble. He was of
German parentage and was born in Jefferson county. With his father, he moved to
the Rishell farm, in Canoe Township, when quite small and lived there until. the
civil war broke out, when he answered his country's call. He enlisted in Captain
Moore's Company, Second Battalion, Pennsylvania Volunteers, June 21, 1803, for
three months and was mustered out January 21, 1864. He re enlisted in Company A,
200th Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the war. April 11,
1867, he married Elizabeth Lowmaster and moved to the farm where he died. To
their union nine children were born. all of whom are still living, except one,
who died when quite small. He is survived by his wire and the following 
children: John Rishell and Mrs. Henry Seger, of Canoe township; Harvey, of
Johnstown; Linus, of Punxsutawney ; Mrs. James Rittenhouse, of Shelocta, Thomas,
of Westover, and George, at home; also, 22 grandchildren, one great-grandchild,
two sisters: Mrs. Sarah States, of Canoe township, and Mrs Mary States, of
Nevada, Mo., and one brother, Wesley, of Canoe township. He was a member of the
M. E, church nearly all his life and died in the faith. Funeral services were
held at his late home Thursday afternoon and interment was made in Dover's
cemetery, in Banks township.
