RICHEY At 11.40 o'clock Tuesday night, William C. Richey, trainmaster of the West Penn division of the Pennsylvania railroad, and a man well known in this city, died at his home in Blairsville. His death was due to heart trouble, superinduced by neuralgia. He was 69 years old, and had been employed by the Pennsylvania railroad for forty-three years. Andrew Carnegie gave him his first position with the road, which was that of brakeman. In 1861 he was made dispatcher, and in 1866 was sent to Blairsville as chief dispatcher and general executive man of the road at that point. Had he lived until next December he would have been retired under the new pension system of the Pennsylvania road. Mr. Richey was a brother-in-law of Edward Pitcairn, of the Pittsburg division of the West Penn railroad, and of Artemus Pitcairn, of the Pittsburg Plate Glass company. He was a cousin of Robert Pitcairn. He leaves a wife, two sons and one daughter, Alexander, of Oil City, and William, of Ohio, and Jeanette, at home. Superintendent D. M. Watt, of the West Penn road, is an old friend of Mr. Richey, and esteemed him very highly. Morning Tribune (Altoona), Thursday, February 15, 1900
