Royer, of Greensburg, a shoe salesman known over the whole of Westmoreland and neighboring counties, died at 12:50 Tuesday at the Westmoreland hospital, from injuries received in a railroad accident at New Florence shortly before 10 o'clock that morning. While waiting for west bound train No. 33, at New Florence, Mr. Royer walked down to the end of the station platform. Seeing his train suddenly round the curve, he turned and ran back toward the station. As he did so, he approached the tracks too closely and was struck by the train he was waiting to board. His right leg was ground off just below the knee and in addition, his head was badly crushed. The injured man was picked up and taken to Greensburg on the same train which caused the accident. At no time from his admission to the hospital until his death, which occurred two hours after, did he regain consciousness. Mrs. Royer and his children, Robert, William and Emily, were with him at the time of his death. His elder sons, Frank and Edgar, who are a Senior and Freshman respectively, at Lafayette college, were notified at once of the accident. Mr. Royer was about fifty years old and for the past thirty years, has been employed by one firm, the Weimer, Wright & Watkins Shoe Co., of Philadelphia.
