Indiana Gazette (Indiana, PA) - 11 Apr 1900, Wed
Dr. John L. Shields, late of the South Side hospital, Pittsburg, died at the
residence of his brother, S. M. Shields, of near Saltsburg, on Saturday. Dr. Shields
was in his 38th year. He read medicine with Dr. M. R. Banks of Livermore, and later
graduated in the medical course from the Western university. He practiced at
Avonmore some years and then removed to Johnstown and later to Pittsburg, where he
was located until a few months ago, when, owing to ill-health, he came to his
brother's expecting to resume his practice in a short time. His death was sudden and
resulted from heart disease. He was buried today at Ebenezer church.
