Was Pioneer. Zachariah Spencer, an aged and respected resident of Indiana county, died at his home near Rossiter, Thursday of pneumonia following influenza at the age of 84 years. He had been ill for sometime and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Spencer was born near Plumville, a son of William and Nancy Spencer. His parents moved to the late home of the deceased when he was a baby and he had lived there until the time of his death. The deceased was a farmer, and in his younger days a man of considerable strength, as were all members of this family. He is mourned by a large circle of friends. Four daughters and three sons survive, namely: Mrs. Elizabeth Farrel, Mrs. Susan Hawk, Mrs. Martha Painter, and Mrs. Etta Henry, all living in the vicinity of Rossiter: Thomas Spencer, of Slippery Rock; Curtain Spencer, of Driftwood: and Harry, living near Rossiter. Funeral services will be held Sunday morning at Steffy Chapel and interment made in the Devers Cemetery. 8/3/1919 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Lydia Spencer Mrs. Lydia Spencer, one of the oldest residents of Indiana county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nancy J. Best, in Banks township, on Thursday of last week. She was aged 91 years 11 months and eight days. She was the wife of Daniel Spencer who died 18 years ago. 1/19/1897 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Lucinda Spencer, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at her home in Smicksburg on Saturday morning. The deceased ; who was aged 94 years, five months, and nine days, was the widow of the late James Spencer, who died in 1874. "Grandma Spencer, who was well-known in that section of the county where she lived , her long and useful life. Her kindly disposition and friendly interest manifested to those in distress were among the fine qualities which made up the beautiful life she led and endeared her to all who knew her. The couple went to housekeeping on their farm near Smicksburg 72 years ago, and the deceased resided there until three years age, when she moved to Smicksburg, where she resided wit her two children Martin and Susan Spencer. Despite her advanced age she retained all her faculties although her sight failed several years ago. For 65 years she was a member of the Smicksburg M. E. church and funeral services were conducted at her late home on Monday by her pastor, Rev. L. E. Teets. Interment followed at Smicksburg. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mrs. Spencer Dead Sarah Hannah Spencer was born October 15, 1846, and departed this life, January 23, 1908, at her home near Long Island. She leaves a husband and five children, two sons and three daughters, to mourn her death. The funeral services were conducted at the home by C. W. Mousley, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Iowa Union cemetery. Phillips County Post 2/6/1908 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CAPT. PETER C. SPENCER In the death of Capt. Peter C. Spencer, at his home in South Mahoning township, on August 24, 1919, northern Indiana county lost one of its most widely known and highly respected citizenzns. He was son of Andrew Spencer an early pioneer of that section of the county, March 24, 1840. He served in the Civil war on the 105th, the famous "Wildcat" regiment. He took an active initerest in local affairs and will be missed in that community. His wife died about a year ago. He is survived by no children. Funeral services were held in the Plumville M.
