We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied from the Indiana Gazette George Washington Stiffler, 78, Indiana, died Friday, Nov. 22, 1996, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Aspinwall. He was born May 6, 1918 in Chester Hill. The fourth of five children, he moved to Ernest with his family in 1926. He was employed by R&P Coal Co. for several years before the outbreak of World War II. He volunteered for duty in the Army Air Corps and served as an air traffic controller from 1942-46 at Grenirt Field, New Hampshire, and Gander, Newfoundland. During the 1950's, he was employed by Orr Transportation as a bus driver. On June 14, 1958, he married Edith June Fink of Waterman and the couple moved to Indiana. From 1959-70, he was a salesman for Ross & DeGaetano Dry Cleaners. In 1971, he joined S&T Bank as a maintenance supervisor, serving in various capacities until his retirement in early 1995. Mr. Stiffler (N3DKO) was an avid amateur radio operator who was active in several local and national ham organizations. He also enjoyed sports, particularly baseball, and coached the Indiana Little League in the early 1970's. He was a loyal IUP football fan and a regular at Miller Stadium each fall. For many years, he was a memner of the Fundamentalist Baptist Church, Indiana, where he taught young adult Bible class in the late 1960's. He was a member of the Blairsville VFW. Surviving are one son, Kevin, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1973; two brothers, Robert and Samuel; and two sisters, Mary Judd and Margaret Rainey.
