ALEXANDER KINGHORN, of White township, will please accept our thanks for a half bushel of very superior turnips, sent us. The seed from which they were raised was brought from Scotland by JOSEPH J. YOUNG, ESQ., and was sown about the first of June. They were large, and very excellent, and the gift is appreciated by us. SERIOUS OCCURRENCE. A few days ago, JAMES S. ALLISON, of White township, entered a well upon his father's farm, for the purpose of removing some debris at the bottom, and while descending the same, was prostrated by the accumulated carbonate of gas within the well. He was rescued by persons present, in a seemingly almost lifeless condition, but soon recovered from this prostration. MR. ROBERT ALLISON, father of the young man above named, a gentleman of some 73 yeras of age, and who has suffered during the past seven years from the effects of a paralytic stroke, made great exertions to rescue his son; and after drawing him out of the well, the old gentleman ran to the barn for a horse, in order to send quickly for a physician. These exertions brought on another paralytic stroke, completely paralysing [sic] the one side of the body, and destroying all power of speech. In this condition MR. ALLISON has remained ever since, and but little hope of his surviving the shock is entertained. 22 August 1866. A BOY SHOT. On last Friday night, MR. CLARK LOUGHERY, of White township, and several other persons, among them a lad from this place, named KANE, were out hunting coons. At length they succeeded in treeing some of the coveted game, but were left in some doubt as to the exact position of the animal. Thereupon, young KANE was induced to climb the tree in order to determine where the game was. He quickly ascended the tree, when MR. LOUGHERY, thinking the lad was still among the lower branches, called to him to hold, that he saw the coon, and deliberately took aim and fired. Unfortunately, the object seen by MR. LOUGHERY, and mistaken in the darkness for the coon, was the lad KANE, who was struck by a ball in the thigh, near the hip joint, causing a serious, and it may be a fatal wound. STrange to say, that thus wounded, and in so unfavourable a position, he prevented himself from falling to the ground, and was carried down by his comrades. Medical aid was called, but as yet the ball has not been discovered and removed. The physician thinks the chances are in favor of his recovery. This is another sad warning against carelessness in using fire arms. US TAX PAYERS. In order to show the people of Indiana county who are contributing to pay the national debt, MR. JOHN M. ROBINSON, late collector for this county, has submitted the following list of names of manufacturers who pay the largest sums, as shown by the accounts for the Government year, from May 1, 1865, to April 30, 1866, as follows: Names Manufacturers of: Tax: Conemaugh Township: SAMUEL WADDLE Salt (562,801 lbs) $464.18 West Wheatfield Township: S.C. ROBINSON for furnishing us the above. MARRIED. HALL-MAGUIRE. On the 17th inst., at Union Hotel, in Indiana, by W.H. Coleman, Esq., MR. JOHN L. On the old Cannon farm, near Kellysburg, on the 7th inst., MESSRS EDWARD BRANDON AND JOHN BROWN, who were mowing grass in a meadow, came upon the skeleton of a snake, about twelve feet in length. A short time ago, near the same place, another snake over eleven feet in length was killed. Rayne township is great on snakes. ANOTHER RUN-OFF. On August 9th, MRS. ABSALOM MONTGOMERY and her son, were driving in a buggy from Plumville to Marion. When passing WILLIAM McCALL'S about three miles from Plumville, a swarm of bees lit up on the mules attached to the buggy, stinging them and causing them to turn on the road and run away. MRS. MONTGOMERY jumped out and escaped injury. Her son was thrown out upon the ground, and the bees assailed him, stinging him terribly--for a time endangering his life. Medical aid was called in and the boys [sic] suffering relieved. GETTING WELL. MR. JOHN HUDSON, who a few weeks ago, was run over by a wagon, and had one of his legs broken, is getting laong quite well, and is recovering from his injuries. MARRIED. WALKER-STUCHAL.
