On Thursday, last, MR. JOHN FAITH, of Rayne township, received a very serious fall. He was repairing an old stable on his father's farm, when a log at the roof, upon which he was standing broke, precipitating him some twelve feet to the ground. One hip was badly bruised by striking a stump, and a spiece of timber falling after him struck him violently on the head causing a serious concussion of the brain. He also received other internal injuries. He was placed under the medical care of DR. H. ROW and hopes are now entertained for his recovery. COMMITTED UPON A CHARGE OF VAGRANCY. On last Friday evening, MR. CHARLES WALBACH, of West White township, appeared befroe ESQ. EARL, of this place, with a man whose name is given as PAINTER, against whom charges of vagrancy and surety of the peace were preferred, and a consultant issued. This man PAINTER has been, for several years, prowling thro' the southern part of this county, living mainly, it is believed, by theft or beggary. He never remained at any habitation, and, when accosted, would rarely speak. He stayed, generally, in the woods, both winter and summer, and lodged wherever the night found him. Latterly he has sought, more frequently, the settled neighborhoods, and by tearing down fences and building fires of the rails, and by other demonstrations, has created considerable destruction and alarm; and this led to his apprehension. Upon being placed in prison, he took an attitude a la militaire, and remained in that position, almost without change, until Monday morning, having during that time declined all meat and drink offered him and stubbornly refused to speak. On Monday morning he relaxed his stoical bearing, and regaled himself with a hearty breakfast, and thereafter became rather loquacious in a conversation with the Sheriff. PAINTER is a man five feet, seven inches high, square built, has a small eye and an ugly look, and his hair and complexion are sandy. In his wanderings he has steadily carried some cooking utensils with him, and has them still in his possession. There is also suspicion existing that this man is a fugitive from justice. It is thought that he may be a man who, it is said, in the Fall of 1865, committed two murders in Westmoreland county, near Apollo. It is stated that a MRS. KLINE married a man of the same description of this person, in the vicinity named, and that afterward, about the time indicated, he killed his child by a blow with his fist, and about a week later poisoned his wife. He was arrested, but escaped from the officers. (We cannor recall any facts in the above statement, and relate it as it reaches us.) Be this as it may, his habits and appearance strongly commend him to the attention and care of the law. MARRIED. --On the 8th inst., by Rev. J.B. Uber, MR. JOHN K. BEASON, of Saltsburgh [sic], and MISS BELL STIVASON, of Armstrong county. --On the 6th inst., by Rev. A.C. Ehrenfeld, MR. JOSEPH KLINGENBERGER, to MISS SOPHIA SNYDER, both of Indiana county, Pa. --On the 7th inst., by the same, MR. Z.L. RITCHEY, to MISS MARTHA E. FLECK, all of Indiana county. --On the 8th inst., by the same, MR. JONATHAN L. COY, to MISS MARY J. WOODS, both of Indiana county, Pa. 21 October 1868 LARGE POTATOES. WM. H. COLEMAN, ESQ., has raised some big potatoes on his farm, in White township, this season. A specimen of the tubers--a regular "lay-over" -weighing 1 pound and 14 1/2 ounces, was shown yesterday. It looks as if it might be sufficient for a small family dinner. DISTRESSING ACCIDENT. On Thursday of last week, a little son of MR. PETER SUTTON, of West Indiana, fell from the hay-mow on his father's stable, and received the most severe and distressing injuries. Both arms were broken between the wrists and the elbows, ---one of them broken in two places, --one wrist and one elbow dislocated, and his head and face badly bruised and lacerated. The lad is about 11 years old. We understand that he is mending, under the treatment of DR. ST. CLAIR. IMPORTANT. MRS. CATHARINE REED of Centre township, received the first premium for the handsomest and best Barred Flannel, at our County Fair. This was in a measure owing to the fact that MRS. REED purchased her Dye Stuffs at W.B. Hildebrand's, where purchasers will always find a large and well selected stock of all kinds of Dyeing Materials, for sale at prices lower than any other house in the county. On last Monday evening, MISS MARIA NESBIT, one of the teachers in our public schools, while on a visit to the house of MR. JOHN D. PATTON, in this place, accidentally fell through a hatch-way, down a flight of stairs, and received very serious injuries, such as a concussion of the brain, sprain of the spinal column and a number of bruises. She is confined to her bed, but seems to be in as favorable a mood as the nature of her injuries will admit. MARRIED. --On the 10th inst., by Rev. John Caruthers, MR. WM. R. SMYERS, of Grant township, to MISS MARY HUNTER, of Eeast [sic] Mahoning township. --On the 21st inst., by Rev. A. McElwaine, at the residence of the bride's aprents, MR. JAMES E.
