SWEENY died at his residence at DuBois on Tuesday of last week from an attack of pneumonia, having been sick ten days. Dr. SWEENY was well known in this county, having taught school a number of years in this place. The deceased was born January 8, 1826, near Tarentum, Allegheny county. He read medicine in Indiana, first with Dr. James L. TAYLOR and then with Dr. James STEWART. He was married October 1, 1850, to Lena Ann ARMSTRONG, of Elderton, this county, where he had been in charge of Dr. Thomas ALLISON's practice, for upward of a year previous to the spring of 1850. From the fall of 1850 to October, 1864, he practiced at Smicksburg, and then located at Brookville, following his profession there until 1883, when he moved to DuBois where he has remained ever since. Dr. SWEENY's wife having died about six months after their marriage, he was married some time afterwards to Miss Elizabeth ROBINSON, who, with four daughters, survive him. Two children of Mrs. John CLINE, of Greensburg, aged respectively 10 and 12 years, ate freely of a sweet-scented root that was found by them in the garden, and in a short time were taken violently ill, one of them dying in great agony in less than two hours, and the other one not expected to recover. The root is said to have been wild parsnip. Albert SMITH, whose people live in Washington township, this county, died at Jeannette on Friday of last week. Mr. SMITH had a large hardware store there and was doing a prosperous business. His remains were brought to this place on Saturday. MISCELLANEOUS Jesse GRIFFITH, an aged and reputable citizen of the southern side of White township, is very ill and his death momentarily expected. Simeon RUMMEL, aged about 23, of Green township, met with an accident on Friday afternoon, by which he lost a foot and the lower part of a leg. He was engaged in sliding logs near Cherrytree, and was standing with one foot in the slide in the act of starting a heavy trail, when a large log came down the slide unnoticed by him and crushed his foot and ankle in a horrible manner. By binding the limb with a handkerchief and stout cord, he was prevented from bleeding to death, until carried to a neighboring house and a couple of physicians summoned, who found it necessary to amputate the limb between the ankle and the knee.
