MEANS Prominent Ebensburg Resident Expired Early Saturday Morning at Home, East Horner Street. Ebensburg was saddened early Saturday morning when news of the death at 2:45 o'clock of Thomas Monroe MEANS, was reported. Mr. Means passed away at his home at 221 East Horner street, following a year's illness of heart trouble. He had been a night guard at the Cambria county jail here the past 15 years and had retired a few months ago because of his failing health. Mr. Means was known for his sterling qualities and interest in civic betterment. His presence will be sadly missed by a host of friends and relatives in this section. Thomas M. Means was born in Punxsutawney on June 21, 1862. He had been a resident of Ebensburg many years. His wife, Mrs. Mollie (TIBBOTT) Means, passed away January 9, 1938. Surviving are two clildren, Tuan Means, of Ebensburg, and Dora Means FRAZIER, Illion, N.Y., and a grandchild, Robert Frazier, Illion, N.Y. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Means home by Rev. John R. Thomas, D.D., pastor of the local Congregational church, of which the deceased was a member. Internment was made in Lloyd cemetary. Alfred T. ISENBERG dies in hospital. Former Ebensburg Resident Expires at Lee Hospital Following a Stroke. Death claimed Alfred T. (Patty) ISENBERG, 52, of Conemaugh, at 3:50 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Lee Homeopathic hospital, Johnstown, following a stroke he suffered Friday. Patty Isenberg, who was a timekeeper on the work train of the P.R.R. in the Conemaugh yards, was well known. He was born at Ebensburg, a son of the late William Isenberg, and of Mrs. Catherine (HARVEY) Isenberg. His father died in 1929. Surviving in addition to his mother are his widow, Mrs. Viola (EVANS) Isenberg, and a daughter, Miss. Elizabeth Isenberg, at home. Mr. Isenberg was a brother of Walter Isenberg, of Ebensburg, and Paul Isenberg, of Wheeling, W. VA. Alfred T. Isenberg was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church, where he was an usher, and also a member of the Holy Name Society of that parish. Funeral services were held at 9 o'clock yesterday morning at Sacred Heart church with a requiem high mass by Rev. Father Charles W. M. WHITE rector. Interment was in the Holy Name cemetery, Ebensburg. Herbert E. POTTER expires at Spangler. Had Been Employed as Clerk at New Ebensburg Inn for the Past Eight Years. Death claimed Herbert E. Potter, 65, at 1:45 o'clock Saturday morning in Spangler hospital. Mr. Potter was well known in this vicinity, having been a clerk at the popular New Ebensburg Inn here for the past eight years. Mr. Potter was found in a semi-conscious condition in bed last Friday morning and was removed to the Spangler Institution. Coroner Patrick McDERMOTT said death was due to internal hemorrages. Mr. Potter was a native of Canada, having been born in Oshawa, Canada. Surviving are his widow and a nephew, Frank TURNEY, Cresson. The remains were taken to Trenton, Ontario, for burial, which took place Monday. Death claims F.E. BRACKETT Noted Engineer was married to former Ebensburg girl; expired December 17. From the Cumberland Md., News of Monday, December 19, we take the following death notiece which will be of interest to many Ebensburgers: Death brought to a close Saturday the career of F. Ernest Brackett, of the Dingle, nationally-known civil and mining engineer. He died early Saturday morning at Memorial hospital, where he had been a patient since September 6. He was 63. Having followed int he footsteps of his father and grandfather, he was the third generation to be prominently identified with the engineering profession and was known nationally as an authority on many mining subjects. He was married February 17, 1909, to Miss Ada Lloyd, daughter of the late Festus and Anna King Lloyd, of Ebensburg, Pa. Stephen Syarto Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock last Thursday morning for Stephen Syarto, 64, of Alverda, who died in Indiana hospital after an extended illness. The services were conducted in the Alverda Catholic church. Interment was in St. Nicholas cemetary at Nicktown. James Shaw James Shaw, 69, was found dead in bed Wednesday morning of last week at the home of Mr. And Mrs.Harry Gearhart, of Nantyglo. Mr. Shaw's death was attributed to complications superinduced by injuries he suffered in a fall on Christmas Day at the Gearhart home. He had been unemployed for the past 10 years and had been residing with the Gearhart family the past three years. Joseph Rogal Joseph Rogal, aged 30, of Hastings, died last Thursday in Spangler hospital. He hadbeen in ill health for several months. Mr. Rogal was a son of John and Mary (Presloid) Rogal, of Hastings. Surviving are his parents, his widow, Mrs. Mary (Clezobka) Rogal, and these children, all at home: Joseph, Jr., Walter and Genevive. He was a brother of Irene, wife of Albert Yahner, Akron, Ohio; Mary, wife of John Schrall, and Anthony Rogal, both of Hastings; John Rogal, Chester; Blair, Albert, Antoinette, Henrietta, Regina and Chester Rogal, all at home. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. Bernard's Catholic church by Rev. Father Adrian, O.S.B. Interment was in St. Stanislaus Catholic cemetary at Barnesboro. Thomas J. Durbin Thomas J. Durbin, aged 69, died at 11:45 o'clock Friday night at his farm in Clearfield township, a short distance from Chest Springs. Mr. Durbin had been ill only a week of pneumonia. He was a son of John and Lydia (McMullen) Durbin, both deceased, and was born in the same house in which he died. He taught school in the northern section of Cambria county for many years and later was engaged in farming. His wife, Mrs. Ida Durbin, passed away nine years ago. Surviving are these children: Gordon, Gertrude, Ida-Marie, Carl and Robert Durbin, all at home, and Paul Durbin, Los Angeles, Cal. He was a brother of Miss Eva Durbin, Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Mary Swope, Trafford City. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning in St. Monica's Catholic church, Chest Springs. Interment was in the church cemetary. Mrs. Bertha Willie Mrs. Bertha (Seckinger) Willie, aged 78, died Friday at her home in Emeigh after an extended illness. She was a daughter of Andrew and Caroline Seckinger and was born in Germany. Her husband, Rudolph Willie, passed away a number of years ago. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Willie home by Rev. Garland Patterson, pastor of the Cherry Tree Methodist Church. Interment was in the East Ridge cemetary. C. J. Mulhearn Charles Joseph Mulhearn, aged 48, died suddenly at 5:45 o'clock Monday morning at his home in Lilly, following a stroke. He was a son of Neale and Mary (Wallace) Mulhearn, both deceased. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock this morning in St. Brigid's Catholic church by Rev. Father Phillip Curran, assistandrector. Interment was in the church cemetary. Mrs. H. M. White Mrs. Martha (Lewis) Gregory-White, aged 61, wife of H. M. White, died Saturday evening at her home in Colver. She was born in Europe, but had been a resident of Colver the past 24 years. Mr. White was twice married. Surviving are her second husband and these children: Mrs. Jennie Ross, Boltz; Mrs. Marie Flick, Butler; Lewis Gregory, Dearborn, Mich., and Mrs. Ruth Sheridan, Youngstown, Ohio. A sister, Mrs. Meidre Fongheiser, preceded her in death. She also leaves nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two brothers, Thomas Lewis, Punxsutawney, and John Lewis, Jamestown, New York. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the White home by Rev. John R. Thomas, D.D., pastor of the Ebensburg Congregational church. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Patton. Mrs. Jannanie Zakryewski Mr. Jannanie Zakryewski, aged 49, wife of Andrew Zakryewski, died Sunday night at her home in Coupon after an extended illness of a complicantion of diseases. Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock yesterday morning in St. Joseph's Catholic church at Coupon. Interment was in the church cemetary. Robert Schwaderer Funeral services for Robert Schwaderer, aged 51, a native of Cresson, who died Sunday night in Lakeside hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, were conducted on Tuesday morning in St. Francis Xavier's Catholic church at Cresson. Interment was in the St. Aloysius cemetery at the Summit. Mrs. Joseph C. Shultz Mrs. Minnie C. Shultz, aged 62, wife of Joseph Shultz, of Cresson, died on Monday afternoon in Mercy hospital, Altoona, following an illness of a few days of pneumonia. Brief funeral services will be conducted at noon today at the Shultz home, after which the cortege will leave for Addison, Md., where additional services will be conducted in the Methodist church. Interment will be in the church cemetary. Cecil J. Johns Cecil J. Johns, 41, died Sunday at his home in Kinport after a brief illness of diphtheria. He was a son of Frank and Crissie (Stiffler) Johns and was born July 12, 1897. His father preceded him in death. Private funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at the Johns home by Rev. James Wagner, pastor of the Barnesboro Christian and Missionary Alliance church. Interment was in the Uniontown cemetery at Indiana county. George Gable George Gable, 81, retired P.R.R. Pittsburgh Division conductor, died at his home in Juniata, Altoona, Saturday. He was born August 1, 1857, in Summerhill, this county, a son of William and Mary (Pringle) Gable. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Mother Xavier Funeral services for Rev. Mother Xavier, whose death occurred Monday, were conducted with a solemn high mass of requiem at 10 o'clock yesterday morning in the chapel of Mt. Aloysius Academy, Cresson, where she spent most of her religious life. Ellis Griffith Ellis Griffith, 60 died Monday at his home in Cherry Tree. He had been ill for several weeks. A native of Indiana county, Mr. Griffith was born in Green Township, February 22, 1878, a son of Samuel and Anna (Everhart) Griffith. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Shoaf and Helen, both of Akron, Ohio. Mr. Griffith was a brother of Mrs. Frank Leamer, Cherry Tree; Harry Griffith, Cherry Tree; Mrs. Ernest Garman, Emeigh Run; Blake Griffith, West Newton, and Herbert Griffith, Cherry Tree. Funeral Services will be held at the Herbert Griffith home in Cherry Tree this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Services will be in charge of Rev. R. M. Tyson, of Cherry Tree. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetary there. William Humphreys Ebensburg-born man expired in Buffalo, NY; Buried at Johstown, Monday. Word was received here last weekend of the death of William Humphreys, aged 72, formerly well known in this section. He expired at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Lawrence Edwards, Buffalo, NY, Friday evening. Mr. Humphreys was born at Ebensburg, but left here when but a young man to take up residence at Johnstown. He resided in that city until a few years ago. He was a deacon in the First Congregational church and was teacher of the Deborah Bible Class for many years. His wife, the former Miss Anna Goodwin, died three years ago. Surviving are his daughter, Mae, wife of J. Lawrence Edwards, and a son, Albert Humphreys, Southmont. He also leaves eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Humphreys was preceded in death by his parents, Edward S. and Margaret Elizabeth (Davis) Humphreys, and two brothers and two sisters. He was the last of his immediate family. The brothers who preceded him in death were John Humphreys, who died in South Dakota three years ago, and Aaron, who passed away a number of years ago in Ebensburg. The sisters, also deceased, were Elizabeth, intermarried with Winfield Reese, of Johnstown, and Martha, intermarried with Albert Apel, formerly of Ebensburg, but now residing at New Kensington. The remains were taken to Johnstown and interred in Grandview cemetery. WEDDING BELLS McAndrew - Yeager The marriage of Miss Margaret Ann Yeager, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Wilfred H. Yeager, of Hastings, and Francis C. McAndrew, son of Mr. And Mrs. Patrick McAndrew of St. Boniface, took place in the St. Boniface Catholic Church Monday of last week at 7 a.m., Rev. Father George Brugger, O.S.B., pastor, officiated. Mackell - Williams Miss Magdalene Williams, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Edward J. Williams, of Cresson, and Glenn Mackell, son of Henry Mackell, of South Fork, were married Sunday morning of last week by Rev. Father John J. Brady, rector of St. Francis Xavier's Catholic church at Cresson. Leiden - Hansen The betrothal of Miss Bernice Hansen, of New York City, to Walter Leiden, of the same place and formerly of Cambria county, was announced Christmas Day at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Leo H. Hansen, St. Paul, Minn., parents of the bride-to-be. Mr. Leiden was a native of St. Lawrence and is well known in Cambria county. He is a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leiden.
