D. Paul McChesney, 68, of Blairsville RD 3, died Friday, Sept. 2, 1983, in
Latrobe Area Hospital. Born June 7, 1915, in Derry Township, he was a son of the
late John C. and Carrie A. Forsha McChesney. Before his retirement, he owned and
operated a dairy farm in Derry Township. He was a member of United Presbyterian
Church of Blairsville where he was a ruling elder and served as clerk of
session. He was a 4-H leader in Westmoreland County. He was also a member of
Derry Area School Authority; Derry Area Planning Commission; Westmoreland County
ASCS; Derry Township Grange 1973, where he was presently serving as overseer;
Westmoreland Pomona Grange 38; State Grange; and National Grange. He held
various offices on all levels of the Grange including master of the Derry
Township and Pomona Grange. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by three sisters. Surviving are his wife, M. Jean Nicely McChesney; two sons,
Roger of Dayton and Leonard of Blairsville RD 3; three daughters, Mrs. James
(Alice) Young of Jordan, N.Y., Mrs. Gary (Linda) Somes of Memphis, N.Y., and
Mrs. Keith (Ellen) Gaskill of Blairsville RD 3, and 17 grandchildren. Friends
will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday
in Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville. Services will be held in the
funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Roger D. Petersen
officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
