Molson JLMolson@aol.com January 11, 2005, 9:55 pm Death certificate and Altoona Mirror, 26 Nov 1918 DIES AT AGE OF 78. William Nelson Molson, Life Long Mason, Dies at Hospital. William Nelson Molson, a veteran of the Civil war and one of the best known colored residents of the city, died at 6:50 o'clock this morning at the Altoona hospital of pneumonia. He was aged 78 years. He was admitted to the hospital from his home, 1825 Thirteenth avenue, rear, several days ago. He was a veteran of the Civil war, serving until 1865 when he was honorable discharged. He was a Methodist by faith and a life-long member of the Masonic fraternity, being the oldest colored Free Mason in this section of the state. He was the first superintendent of the A. M. E. Sunday school at Clearfield. He was born on Sept. 13, 1840, at Mexico, Juniata county, and was married, being survived by his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary M. Grosse of Clearfield, and one sister, Mrs. Mary E. Lyons of McAllisterville. He was janitor in the Logan school, Juniata, for fourteen years and for the past four years elevator operator at the Mateer building. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the service in charge of Rev. S. B. Moris, D. D. The Free Masons will have charge of the service at the A. M. E. church.
