Juniata sentinel. (Mifflintown, Pa.): August 30, 1871
In Atlantic City, N. J., on the 4th inst., Major James K. Robison, formerly of
Juniata county, in the 52nd year of his age. Major James K. Robison, whose sudden
death, on Thursday, August 24th, at the United States Hotel, Atlantic city, shocked
our community, was for many years an esteemed citizen of this county, but for the
last fifteen years has been engaged in business in and around Philadelphia. Shortly
after the war of the rebellion broke out, Major Robison returned to this county and
assisted his brother, Col. J. K. Robison, to raise a company of cavalry, with which
he went to Harrisburg, and on the organization of the Sixteenth Pa. Cavalry, to
which said company was attached, he was appointed to the Quartermastership of that
regiment, with the rank of Lieutenant. This position he filled with credit to
himself and perfect satisfaction to the regiment for about a year, when he was
promoted to the Brigade Quartermastership with the rank of Captain. After remaining
in this office for a short time he was promoted to the office of Division
Quartermaster, with a position on the staff of Maj. Gen. D. M. Gregg, which be held
until Gen. Sheridan assumed immediate command of all the cavalry forces of the Army
of the Potomac in the spring of 1865. That officer tendered him a position on his
staff as Corps Quartermaster, with the rank of Major, which office he occupied until
the close of the War...
